Apparently most parents are uncomfortable with The Big Comfy Couch, since (at the time of this writing) only 44% of epinions written recommend the show.
I think the thing on the show that scares me the most is the lead character, Loonette. She's an adult, who dresses like a clown, who (I think) is suppose to be a little girl. For more of a description about this character and her influence as a role model, see juliamay's epinion about the show.
I agree with juliamay that positive role models are better for preschoolers to watch. When you have a program like Allegra, I'd pick Allegra as a role model over Loonette any day.
The show's main character reminds me of Lily Tomlin's character Edith Ann. Lilly Tomlin would dress up like a 6-year-old and sit in an oversize chair to make herself look more like a little girl. Edith Ann did bad things and wasn't the nicest person. The Edith Ann image just clouds my perception of Loonette and the show.
Don't get me wrong--I LOVE Lily Tomlin and Edith Ann. But the Edith Ann character was comical and aimed towards adult humor.
I've read several of the other positive epinions praising this show. Many are well written and make very good points that I can't disagree with. But, personally, I cannot recommend this show to other parents for their preschoolers.
