There aren't many kids shows specifically about animals anymore. Aside from snipets on "Sesame Street" now and then, you hardly see nature shows on a regular basis, much less one with cute guys.

I admit, that's why I like "Zoboomafoo". Chris and Martin Kratt are twin brothers who like animals. Instead of just showing lots of animal footage, though, they actually interact with the animals and have interesting things to say about them. These are guys who like what they do.
Kids over the age of eight might think "Zoboomafoo" is a little silly. The Kratts' cohost is a lemur puppet who tells bad jokes. Frankly, the show doesn't need a puppet to be entertaining. If a child is really into this show, she's into it for all the cute (and sometimes strange and exotic) animals. The Kratts don't speak to their audience like kids, so some of the education might be lost on really small viewers. Still, toddlers like animals, too, and my toddler looks interested.
When you've O.D.'d on cute for the day, Zoboomafoo is a good antidote. Besides the Zaboo, the lemur, there are no furry little creatures. More importantly, there's no Zaboo alphabet See and Say to buy. It's interesting TV without the marketing.
