| mkosak's Full Review: Figure It Out |
It's the Nickelodeon celebrities on the show! No, it's the green slime! No, watching everyday kids who do astounding things! No, it's seeing the crazy things some kids do! No! it's kids thinking about what they can do to get on the show!
IT'S ALL OF IT AND MORE!
Figure it Out is one of those shows that I shook my head during. It's a kids' version of "What's My Line" and "Hollywood Squares." The celebrity panelist joke with each other and make fools of themselves while attempting to guess what special thing the contestant had done.
I didn't see what my kids saw in it. But when you look at all the things above, you can understand why this show appeals to kids. 5 to 7 year olds love watching the celebrity guest get slimmed; 9 to 11 year old love seeing their favorite Nick stars; and everyone loves seeing the kid next door stump the celebrity panel and go home with prizes!
You really need to watch the show several times to appreciate it. If mom or dad just tune in to see a panelist get slimmed or to act stupid, they're not going to think much of it. If the "talent" the contestant has is eating goldfish in one gulp, mom is probably going to ban the show. But when you've watched an episode where the contestant has single handedly collected $10,000 for a worthy charity, has mastered walking on stilts, or has done some other wonderful feat; you say to yourself: "Yes, this is something I think my kids may learn from and be entertained by."
This show has gotten my kids thinking. They have realized some of the special things they can do and think about showcasing on Figure It Out. They've also been very impressed with some of the contestants and get the sense that everyone, even kids, can make a difference.
