| bops_mom's Full Review: Little Bill |
Little Bill is an animated television show for pre schoolers and toddlers. It airs on Nickelodeon as part of their Nick Jr. line up. Little Bill airs Monday - Friday at 11:30 a.m. Eastern/Pacific.
Little Bill was created by comic Bill Cosby. It is based on the books he's written about Little Bill, a 5 year old child.
The Main Characters
Little Bill - he is a five year old who has the best laugh! He isn't perfect, but has a great attitude for being taught when he does wrong.
April - Little Bill's older sister. She is the typical older sister type.
Bobby - Little Bill's older brother. Lots of sibling rivalry goes on, but it's plain to see that Bobby and Little Bill love each other dearly.
Mama - Brenda - Little Bill's mom. Her voice is done by Phylicia Rashad, and I must say she's a wonderful mommy. She is always matter of fact, loving, caring and has the most soothing voice! She is one busy lady and sometimes must take business trips away from the family.
Big Bill - Little Bill's daddy. He's a kind and understanding man who loves his family and jazz music.
Alice the Great - Little Bill's great-grandma. She watches and cares for Little Bill when needed. She's one smart cookie and always seems to know just what to say.
What age is it for?
My 3 year old son has only recently gotten to the point where he wants to watch Little Bill daily. Before this, he would only occasionally choose to watch it. I think it's because he couldn't really understand everything until now.
While I feel that Little Bill is safe for children of all ages to watch, based on my son's reaction to the show I'd recommend Little Bill for children ages 2-6.
Cute, entertaining and funny!
My son likes watching Little Bill because it is a very cute show. It's entertaining to young children all the while teaching them about every day life. It's not uncommon for my son to laugh out loud and giggle several times during the thirty minute long Little Bill show.
Lesson's Learned
As a parent, I appreciate that Little Bill teaches valuable lessons in a way that it's young audience can understand.
Children watch as Little Bill learns about making new friends. They watch as he learns that his friend, Monty who has Cerebral Palsy is different, but can still play and have a great time with Little Bill. He learns how he must adapt and help out others who need it.
Children see how Little Bill, April and Bobby have to figure out who gets to choose the cereal for that grocery trip. They discuss it and each has their own way to make it so they are the one who should choose. Eventually, Little Bill is the one who gets to choose and instead of taking the box he wanted, he learns to compromise and get the multi pack that everyone would enjoy.
Children can watch as Little Bill tries to figure out what his "thing" is, as well as watch him appreciate other's "thing's". [Note: for anyone wondering, one's "thing" is the one thing that that character really enjoys. i.e., jazz, photography.]
I also really like the amount of respect that is shown in the characters. The children are not perfect, if they were, children wouldn't learn much and it might be a boring show. However, the children respect their parents and the parents in turn treat their children as valuable people - not just "little kids".
Overall
I recommend Little Bill as I feel it is a very enjoyable television show that also shows children things they need to learn and understand about every day life. Thankfully, Little Bill is not too cute-sie or annoying, and I have been known to sit and watch Little Bill's adventures right along with my son.
