| andrewjaemom's Full Review: Little Bill |
"Hello, friend" has become my two-year-old's favorite saying now that Nickelodeon made the wise decision of putting Little Bill on five days a week. Little Bill, an adorable bald-headed kid with an infectious laugh, quickly stole my heart as well.
Little Bill is the one of the latest ventures from Bill Cosby. The cartoon centers around the life of a preschooler named Little Bill. He is the youngest of three siblings. His oldest sister is a sports nut and excellent athlete while his brother is more intellectual-- but not stereotypically geeky. Little Bill's parents and great-grandmother-- whom they call "Alice the Great"-- also live with him.
Little Bill's adventures revolve around his daily activities sprinkled with some imagination. Episodes are based on the early reader series Bill Cosby created to give minority children more options in children's picture books. Each half hour show has two shorter segments that tie together. For example, in one episode Little Bill is chosen to be his teacher's ring bearer for her wedding, and he believes that he gets to dress up in a bear suit. The following segment then is the story of her wedding.
I think that the most important aspect of the show is that Little Bill is just a normal kid from a normal loving family. He lives in a normal house with a normal pet and has normal situations to face. And he just happens to be African-American.
I think the television industry in general could learn a lesson or two about how to create a good show with minority characters from Little Bill because Nickelodeon hits in on the mark here.
