My son Austin just turned three at the end of June. He loves to watch TV when he is not busy making my hair turn gray. It was not until a month ago that he discovered Little Bill. Every day he looks forward to watching this show.
Little Bill was created by Bill Cosby and airs on Nickelodean Monday thru Friday at 10 A.M. here in Maryland. It also airs on CBS on Saturday mornings. I am not sure of the exact time. It was not until last Saturday that we discovered that is on CBS as well.
Little Bill is a 5 year old who is in Kindergarten. He is the youngest of three children. The main characters on the show are as follows:
Little Bill
April-his sister
Bobby-his brother
Big Bill-his father
Brenda-his mother
Alice the Great-his great grandmother
Little Bill is about a boy who has a great imagination and faces everyday life with adventures, answers, and curiosity. There are two shows that stand out in my mind.
Show One:
One day Little Bill's great grandmother, Alice the Great, was having a friend over. Her friend was also bringing her great grandson so Little Bill had someone to play with while the two great grandmothers were getting reaquainted. The friends great grandson was in a wheel chair. Before the friend arrived, Alice the Great explained to Little Bill that her friends great grandson was in a wheel chair and could not walk. When the friend arrived at first Little Bill was reluctant and hid behind his great grandmother. Then he finally opened up and started to play with the handicapped boy. This show really caught my eye because it taught my son that just because someone is in a wheel chair they are still humans. They can still laugh and play. It showed my son that it is ok to ask questions of why people are incapable of doing things that we are able to do.
Show Two:
I have three children myself and I know that going to the hair dresser is boring. One day Brenda, Little Bills mom, was going to the hair dresser. Little Bill just did not want to go. He said it was always boring, but he had no choice but to go. When they first arrived, Little Bill sat in a chair as told being quiet. Then another little boy came in and had to sit and wait on his mother as well. The two boys started to talk and kept each other busy. They were not supposed to get up, but we all know kids never listen well. The two boys ended up going up to two hair dryers and pretending they were going into space. They used their imaginations and the time flew by. By the time the two mothers were done, the boys were dancing to some music and everyone looked good and had some laughs. This show just made me laugh. I do not like taking my kids to get my hair done, but it did teach my son that boredom is normal, but if you use your imagination you can have fun.
Little Bill is one of the best childrens shows on today. I really am glad that my son discovered it. The show is filled with entertainment. I feel it is very educational in the aspect that it does make children think. Little Bill is a sure winner in my home.
