| My3LilMen's Full Review: Little Bill |
Nick. Jr. has teamed up with Bill Cosby and made a "real" hit with Little Bill. Comedian, Author and Creator Bill Cosby has another fabulous achievement with the Little Bill series aired on the famous Nick Jr. (television for kids).
Who are the characters?
**Little Bill - Adorable 5 year old boy who learns something new in every episode. He has an active imagination and he loves his family and friends. He has a personality that makes him glow and a laugh that is infectious. Little Bill is the main character of the show.
**Brenda or Mama - The voice of Phylicia Rashaad is Little Bill's mother. She always has a soothing technique to make things not seem so bad and shows a genuine "mothers love."
**Big Bill - Little Bills dad who never raises his voice. His family is most important to him and it is obvious to all viewers.
**Alice the Great - Little Bills Great Grandmother. She is full of wisdom and has much to offer each member of the family, especially Little Bill.
**Bobby - Little Bills Big Brother. Little Bill looks up to Bobby and loves his big brother.
**April - Little Bills Big Sister. April comes across as a witty and sweet sister.
Those listed above are the main characters but there are a few others that deserve honorable mention as they help the show be a success in my opinion. Little Bill's cousin Fushia and his teacher and classmates help to "make" the show.
Air Time
Little Bill airs on Nick Jr. at 10 am Est. time. It is a 30 minute show that includes two different episodes within that time frame. It is at a convenient time for children that stay at home and even daycare children as it is after breakfast but before lunch.
Suggested Age
The recommendation for age on the show states Y for Youth. This show is completely "G" rated and is an educational and entertaining show for even the smallest child. A child that does not understand completely what the show is about still can enjoy the music and animation. My boys are 6, almost 4 and 2 and they all three love Little Bill.
Values and Morals
Little Bill is a show that teaches children the importance of Values and Morals. For example there was one show that Little Bill found a dollar bill and he wanted to claim it right away. Alice the Great explained that the "RIGHT" thing to do would be to ask if it belong to anyone. He found it on the curb and so he hollered out to see if anyone had lost a dollar. After several attempts to find the rightful owner, Alice the Great told Little Bill that she guessed the dollar was his now. She taught him a great Value in this episode. We should "NEVER" take something that we find without doing what we can to find the rightful owner. Values and Morals are focused on less and less in children shows and to find a show that really puts stress on the "RIGHT" thing to do, deserves a thumbs up!
More Episodes and The Lessons They Teach
The show Little Bill focuses on many every day events that a typical 5 year old would come across as well as some that would happen on a rare occasion. You can rest knowing that your child is not just watching empty radio waves on the television and is really building knowledge and manners.
Today the show Little Bill focused on being scared of water and afraid of the dark.
Little Bills mama and cousin, Fushia worked with him until he felt comfortable getting into the pool. He was not forced or pushed into getting in the pool but his mama and Fushia helped him by making the water seem less a threat and helping build his confidence by relating it to the bath tub. Eventually within his own time, Little Bill was in the pool splashing with Fushia and offering his mama a hand to hold if she was scared to get in the water.
In the second episode of Little Bill, being afraid that there was something in his closet prevented Little Bill from falling asleep. He went to Alice the Great's bedroom and told her there was something scary in his closet and it had a big tail and, and, and it was a "THING." She got up out of bed and walked with him back to his room to show him there was nothing in his closet. She turned on the light and said "Little Bill, Where is the "THING"?" Little Bill said the "THING" was hiding. So Alice the Great said she knew just what Little Bill needed. She told him he needed some magic and to follow her and they walked back to her bedroom where she pulled out a Magic Quilt. The quilt had different pictures that bring happy thoughts and good feelings like the thoughts of a beach ball, ice cream cone or a Guppie. Alice the Great told Little Bill that Big Kids Know the Secret to not being scared and the secret was that Scary things want you to think about them, and that is what makes you be scared. So you need to think of happy things and you won't be scared. The Magic Quilt would help Little Bill not be scared because he could think of how ice cream tastes and about beach balls and how much fun it was to play with them on the beach. Little Bill soon drifted off to sleep. He woke the next morning to share with his family about the magic quilt and found out that his sister, April; brother, Bobby and even his mama had used the Magic Quilt when they were little. The Magic Quilt had been in the family for some time making those scary things go away and teaching boys and girls the secret of "not being scared."
This Show Deserves An Award
This show has much to offer your children and even you as a parent/grandparent. The methods used to get points across are subtle but yet direct. You will have no worries of violence or your child picking up bad habits.
