I have to admit, I really do love Ren and Stempy. But even more, I love my three year old child. I had to find a compromise. SpongeBob is the man to fill the spot.
With the same absolutely stupid, laugh out loud humor as Ren and Stempy, without entering the bathroom, SpongeBob has become the man of the hour, or in this show's case, half hour.
I was a skeptic when the show first appeared. The premises was just too "lame", a household sponge in clothes, living in the ocean with his friends. Hmmmm.... And it did look similar to Ren and Stempy, so I feared that it was another show that I would like, but have to avoid for fear of subject matter. But the little one kept insisting, so one day during nap time, I ventured to this nautical nonsense under the sea.
I'm as hooked as a carp on doughballs. I love it. My little one loves it. My husband loves it. We are forming on own little cult. We make our friends watch when the visit. They now can joins us in singing the theme song.
So what is all this nautical nonsense about, you ask? SpongeBob is a (you guessed it) sponge. He lives in a pineapple under the sea, with his friends and co-workers. His best friend is a starfish named Patrick, his pet a snail named Gary that mews like a cat. Squidbert, the squid is his next door neighbor, an Archie Bunker of the underworld. His boss, a crab, owner of the Krusty Krab restaurant, where SpongeBob is the grill cook. Sandy is the love interest of SpongeBob. She is a squirrel in a astronauts uniform that lives inside a plastic bubble.
I did not say this was an intelligent show did I? =c)
The show follows SpongeBob's adventures, from chasing jellyfish to trying to win employee of the month yet another month. There is no socially redeeming value to this show. It's just fun. AND FUNNY! Sometimes you just need to laugh. There doesn't have to be a reason for it. Your kids need this too. Believe me the only lesson to learn here, is it is time for a little fun.
So, sit back relax, and when the captain starts the theme song, asking, "Are you ready mateys?" I want to hear you say Aye, Aye Captain.
