Pros: Beautiful white finish; durable yet moderately priced; safe and dependable.
Cons: Crib mattress must be purchased separately; plastic teething rails easily crack.
The Bottom Line: For a basic yet traditionally elegant full-sized crib that is moderately priced, practical, and safe, the Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib would make a good solid choice.
melissasrn's Full Review: Angel Line Jenny Lind Crib
Many years ago when my older children were babies, we had a traditional Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib in the maple finish that was still going strong after safely housing two babies for two years each. After we decided that two children were more than plenty, we sold our old crib for a rather decent price since it was still in great shape. Only a few years later, our preferences changed and suddenly we were expecting baby number three. It was certainly time to purchase another crib! But what kind would we get this time around? Our choice was made for us when we received our second beautiful full sized Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib as a baby shower gift. Only this time our model featured a lustrous white finish, but the basic yet high quality design was the same. For I knew from the very beginning because of our past experiences that our new son would sleep safely in this highly trusted piece of baby furniture.
~~~The Crib~~~
The Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib is a full sized wooden crib measuring 54 1/2 inches long, 30 1/4 inches wide, and 45 inches high that is rich in colonial elegance and constructed of select hardwoods, adding to its traditionally beautiful appearance. Second to none in quality and dependability, this durably safe crib contains all Dura Metal hardware and features turned spindles in four available non toxic finishes: maple, oak, natural, and the one reviewed here, white. The EZ Access drop side (with Dual Action drop side locks) may be operated easily and quietly while leaving one arm free to hold onto a sleeping infant. Two plastic teething rails are located on each long rail, and four removable hooded swivel casters placed at each leg of this crib makes moving it across the room as desired very simple. There are also four easy to adjust mattress position settings on the Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib that may be utilized for greater safety as your helpless newborn grows into a mobile toddler. Save your back during those first few months by placing the mattress in the highest position.
~~~Price & Availability~~~
Easy to find at many popular department stores such as Sears, KMart, BabysRUs and other independent retailers, the Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib may be found for as little as $100 on sale in new condition. And currently, this moderately priced yet highly durable crib may be found online at www.BabyAge.com for $139.99 plus shipping and handling (note that the mattress must be purchased separately). Adult assembly will be required, and make sure that this crib is put together inside the nursery or bedroom as this piece of baby furniture is often too large to fit through most doorways in the assembled position otherwise. Fancy matching bedding is certainly a nice option if desired, but truly all that is really needed are a few good crib sheets and mattress pads to comfortably house your sleeping infant inside this functional crib. Register for the Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib at your favorite store and perhaps this high quality item will become a most appreciated gift at your baby shower.
~~~Safety Issues~~~
Parents can rest assured knowing that their baby will be safe sleeping and/or playing inside the Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib as it meets or exceeds all applicable US Federal Safety Standards that are currently in effect. Each of the turned spindles are spaced 1 3/4 inches apart while the four corner slots are 2 1/4 inches apart. Because older cribs with slots larger than 2 5/8 inches apart are considered unsafe as infant deaths have actually be reported when a baby's small head has become wedged in between the slots, resulting in suffocation. So always measure the slots on antique or "hand me down" cribs and do not use them if the spaces between the spindles are larger than 2 5/8 inches apart. Always lower the mattress to the lowest position when your baby begins becomes more active and learns to pull him or herself to a standing position. At this same time, remove any mobiles and/or crib bumpers used with your Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib for greater safety as well. And most importantly, always raise the side rail to its highest position and listen for that distinct locking "click" when leaving your little one unattended for sleep or play purposes.
~~~Our Experience~~~
When baby number three was a few months old and had quickly outgrown the bassinet we had placed beside our bed, he began safely sleeping inside his new Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib with its beautiful white finish located in our bedroom. Once we moved to a larger home a few months later, Tristan's crib was reassembled inside the room he shares with his older brother and that's where it has been ever since. Now that he is almost two years old now, I can certainly account for the durability this crib provides as he shakes the rails back and forth quite frequently when he wakes up in the morning or from his nap and is ready to get out. Only instead of teething on the plastic teething rails located on each side, Tristan decided he liked the painted shorter "head" and "foot" ends better so there are sections of his crib that have teeth marks where the non toxic paint has been chewed right off! Soon it will be time to move him to a toddler bed, but other than the obvious teeth marks found on the painted surfaces, our Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib is still in excellent shape and could easily be used for another child if the need should ever arise.
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
While there are certainly more expensive cribs on the market for those that want to very best baby furniture that money can buy for the nursery, expectant parents on a budget who wish to purchase practical yet beautifully durable sleeping quarters for their new arrival should seriously consider checking out the Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib in the finish of their choice. I particularly prefer the look of the white model described here because of the innocence that this color portrays, but other choices are available to meet your specific decorating needs. So when choosing a moderately priced crib that will surely last for many years through more than one child, this basic option is certainly a highly recommended one. Register today for the traditionally dependable Evenflo Jenny Lind Crib and enjoy it's beautiful appearance as well as its convenient safety features well into the future. For "sweet dreams" will be "safe dreams", and that is truly the most important thing.
