Plain and simple. I like it. I've had the good, the bad, and the ugly in toasters and this one qualifies as the good with the plus of being pretty too. It works and even though it is a little slow, it toasts my muffin the way I like it.
The Long Story:
I've had a couple of toasters since my last toaster review back in September of 2004. Actually, I've had a lot of things since my final review in May of 2005. It's been a very long while. I've missed the Epinions community as a whole and many individuals very much. I am hoping a good number of you will remember me and not just those who were glad to see me go. ha! I just did not have it in me to write any longer. I'll give it a try now and see if I can get back into the swing of things. On with this review.... ( I do not believe spell check is working on this. lol )
I feel, in the big scheme of toasting things, good toasters are difficult to find. Most are flimsy even though they look as if they are made of heavy stainless steel. They either toast too much or not enough no matter what setting it rests on. They tend to be fire hazards or leave crumb trails for the length of your counter top. I know many of you can feel my pain.
I love this toaster though. For the most part. The main thing it is suppose to do, it does. It toasts as evenly as any other toaster I've seen or used, but it does take quit a while for that to happen. Well, it takes a couple minutes but not more than four. I suppose that isn't all bad unless you are late for work.
I leave my setting on 2 and so far so good. Caramel color toast that is even nearly every time, unless some one goofs with the settings and I do not notice it. No burnt toast and no electrical smell either. The adjustable shading control regulates the darkness of the toast. Seems to be accurate so far.
The thing weighs ten (10) pounds and it feels like 10 pounds. It isn't flimsy however, the sliders could possibly loosen up in time. How much time I do not know. So far they are doing well for me. The cancel works well too. You can't flip the sliders up manually. Perhaps you could be I have to think you'd break them if you did. Just cancel it.
I've toasted bread slices, English muffins, bagels, pop-tarts, and waffles and all have turned out great. Just remember that time factor. Waffles appear to take the most time for me. 4 minutes. Pretty long time I should think.
I think it is worth the money though I am really never 100% satisfied with much of anything. I'm not looking for a new one yet though.
About the crumbs. They all have crumbs. They have to be somewhere don't they? It's just that some handle crumbs better than others. As with many toasters I have owned, this one is not the cleanest in the world. Dumping the tray is quite messy.
Bagel, Defrost, Reheat, and Toast/Cancel buttons
LCD display with digital progress bar
Manual high-lift lever
temperature knob with light/dark indicator
Removable Crumb Tray
There is a 1 (one) year warranty.
Tip: People, shop around. Do not get this from KitchenAid's site. Unless you just like giving near double for something. You can give a fair price or a high price. The choice is yours.
