Pros:Good sound, comfortable, inexpensive
Cons:Could be better balanced
The Bottom Line: Great sound for the money - I'd recommend it for the 90% of people who listen to mainstream music
I was looking for the best pair of headphones under $25, and I believe I've found them - the Koss UR29. These are not perfect, but for the price, I'd have a hard time finding anything much better.
The most important consideration for any piece of audio equipment is the sound quality. Yes, these are cheap headphones with compromises. The most notable compromise is the lack of high frequencies - not horribly bad mind you, but it's noticeable in instrumental pieces. Base on the other hand is very good - these are definitely more suited to Pop music than classical.
These are large headphones, designed to completely cover your ears to isolate you from outside sounds as well as preventing your music from leaking out. They do a good job of preventing others from hearing your music; it could do a slightly better job isolating you from the outside. I was still able to hear my roommate's music while wearing the headphones and playing music at a low-moderate volume.
These are fairly well designed. The audio cable is thick, the inline volume control is nice and hasn't given me problems yet. These are pretty comfortable; I've worn them for 3 hours at a time and not gotten uncomfortable enough to take them off, though it does make my ears warm. I wear glasses and have no problem fitting them to my head. The headband is cushioned well and has a wide range of sizes. These are big headphones though, and not really suited to traveling (they have a long 8ft cord too).
Also note the lifetime warranty offered by Koss; I haven't taken advantage of it yet, but it's somewhat comforting to know that if they break in 5 years, it'll only cost you shipping to replace it.
I'd recommend them if you listen to most mainstream music. If you listen to classical (or a lot of Enya), I'd suggest spending a little more money and buying a set of headphones that are more well balanced.
