I have 3 left handed children. My youngest(age 4) is who we bought the leappad for. She has a great deal of difficulty with some of the apps. This is clearly not designed for a left handed user. the screen is pressure sensitive and the layout of some of the apps makes it almost impossible for her to hold her hand in it's natural position and still use the app. this is particularly true on the Petpad app...letter tracing. Here was the response I got from Leappad support.
"We are sorry to hear that.
Although the stylus pen on the LeapPad Explorer is tethered to the right side of the device, the cord is made long enough to write without difficulty using either the left or right hand. The games that feature writing do not require the user to be pressing the keys on either the left or right side of the screen while writing.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Should you need further assistance, please let us know."
My impression is they simply do not care. Pretty sad if you ask me. So if your child is left handed...think twice.
