Pros: cute and my daughter really enjoys it!
Cons: only 3 songs in the music mode
Last Christmas, when my youngest daughter was almost 2, I saw this toy and knew that my little girl would love this. It plays music and the Wheels on the Bus have been one of her favorite books for awhile.
Leapfrog Musical School Bus
This toy is shaped like a bus and is a touch screen. Once you have turned it on there are three modes for playing. There is a learning mode in which you can touch letters and it will tell you the letter and a word that begins with that letter. Each of the letters on the bus have something below it that starts with the same letter. If you touch one of the band members on the bus it will tell you the name of the instrument that the band member is holding. In game mode the toy will ask you to find a letter or object and you have to press the letter that they are referring to. In music mode you get to play music after you have touched a band member to start a song. There are 3 songs that they rotate between. There is a 6 note pentatonic scale piano at the bottom of the bus and the wheels are percussion instruments to add to the fun.
There are four learning skills that are concentrated on with this toy including letters and letter sounds, early vocabulary, animals & instruments, and creative music play. I would say by how this toy is set up that all of these areas are worked on in a fun manner.
This toy is recommended for children ages 2 and older.
This toy ranges in price between $18-$26 at Toysrus, I recommend finding a sale (as they are often on sale now). I got this from Kohls when I had a 30% coupon and it was listed at $29.99.
This toy needs 3 AAA batteries to work. We have had this toy 6 months and have not had to change the batteries that came with the toy yet.
My daughter really loves this toy. She enjoys playing the music and pressing the buttons to hear about the different items that start with every letter of the alphabet. She has learned many words from this toy from the letters. She practices saying them with the toy.
My only complaint is that there are only 3 songs. Seriously they couldn't have had more songs? As much as we like the three songs we all get tired of them rather quickly. I think it would hold my daughter's attention better too. She really likes to play the piano or dance when the music starts. This is by far her favorite mode.
I also like that this toy is light enough for her to pick up. She can pick it up and carry it with her or even bring it up to her bed. It is not bulky, but a good size for a 2 year old.
This is a fun toy that works really well.
