Prepare For The Anal Probe With Lego's Alien Conquest Battle Pack

Durability:
Pros:Five figures, sweet weapons, full body stenciling on four figures.
Cons:Done in classic yellow not flesh, not worth more than ten dollars.
The Bottom Line: A nice way to add two officers or two aliens to your scene but I wouldn't pay more than ten dollars for this pack.
If you are new to Lego, shopping for presents for the holidays or are looking to add mini figures to your collection – Battle Packs are worth checking out if you can get them at a reasonable price. These are not rare or limited edition set [unless you are getting the ComicCon sets and those are clearly labeled as being CC exclusives] so don't fall for the deceptive advertising that some stores and websites are employing to try and sell these for more than their suggested price. A Battle Pack is a figure themed set; it usually has at least one accessory or weapon per character and clings to the parent theme it is taken from. The series started out strong with Star Wars and medieval sets but has branched out to include other themes. Mini Figures: Like most of the newer Battle Packs, there are five mini figure characters in the set. The two officers / soldiers have nice upper and lower stenciling on the torso and leg sections; both come with modified weapons but these are not clip together pieces. I was a little disappointed with the helmets and visors that the designers picked for these; a scuba styled helmet would have looked a lot better because of the amount of the detail on the torso. The blue coloring on the uniform / suit seems a little wimpy and watered down for me. I would have rather had them in something darker or at least something with black leg pieces. There are two unique head pegs for the officers but some of the detail is blocked because of the helmet; the visor is clear but you still get blocked areas. The aliens are the two best characters in the pack; you get two unique figures in the forms of the trooper and pilot. How you choose to use these in a scene or what tasks you assign to them is personal choice; the rotting flesh color used for the fleshy areas is a nice touch and because this is a good pairing with some of the non-typical alien characters in other themes you can use them as crossover pieces. They have modified weapons with clear neon yellow stud pegs on the end; if you want to swap those out with clear ones or something with a solid color you can change the look of the weapons. I love the fact that the hand pegs are the same gross green color as the head pieces; if they were done in anything but that or black they would have looked horrible. Individually these sell for about three dollars without weapons so if you want to get more of them and can’t find this selling for a reasonable piece you can get them independently from the Lego sets or the Battle Pack. Price: This has a suggested retail price of fifteen dollars. That comes out to three dollars a piece. While there are some nice weapons in the set the two officers are a little generic and the businessman is out of place if you don’t have any of the Alien Conquest sets. The two aliens are the ones that steal the show and since they have the same coloring as the mutants in the Space Police theme you can use these with either collection to increase your replay value. I got the set for $8.99 when I bought a larger set I got this one for 40% off. Coming across sales like this can be a great way to get sets that you might otherwise pass on. The most I would pay for another set is about ten dollars because the aliens are honestly the only two of the five that I would want or need to get in multiples. If you are thinking about buying this online make sure that you check the price of shipping and handling because I have seen this selling for five to seven dollars but with a ten to twelve dollar shipping and handling fee. This is a nice add on if you are in to the Alien Conquest theme or have some of the Space Police sets but want to add a little variety to your aliens and officers. If you are someone that collects just the mini figures the five you get with the set are nice but the two officers are too similar for my taste, the businessman is borderline generic so that leaves the weight of the success of the set on the shoulders of the aliens.
