Lego Ninjago “The Golden Dragon” (#70503) is a set containing 252 piece including 3 minifigures. This set is part of “The Final Battle”, which took place towards the end of the Ninjago TV series.

The Golden Dragon is made up of mostly gold colored Lego pieces along with some black and dark green. It’s a very menacing looking dragon. It has a reptilian-dragon-dinosaur, yet mechanical, feel. There is a set of three talons on each wing and large claws on the feet too.  From head to tail, wing to wing and talons to claws, this dragon has moveable pieces all over. There are joints all over this piece that allows for incredible Lego brick movement and rotation. The wings can spread, the tail can rotate and the can rotate as well.

The dragon head is unique for Lego. The head is made of two separate, soft rubber parts. A set of jaws inside the head can hold a small green ball. When the head is squeezed, the ball becomes a projectile. If the head is pressed hard enough, the ball can fly far and fast.

There is a spot on the top of the Golden Dragon for a minifigure. The figure that is intended to sit on the Golden Dragon is the Golden Ninja. My daughter has informed me that Lloyd Garmadon is the Golden Ninja. I don’t pay much attention to Ninjago, but my daughter filled me in on how Lloyd was once the Green Ninja, but has since become the Golden Ninja. The Golden Ninja minifigure is almost entirely gold, including his head, hood and sword. There are some green embellishments on his body and legs.

The other two minifigures are the ninjas’ enemies. One is a scout, the other a warrior. Both are mainly black and red, and have evil looking faces. The one that I assume is the warrior has a balck helmet with a small hinged part and red “horns” on the top. The hinged part is very delicate. One rough touch and it pops right off, and is not easy to get back on securely. The scout has shorter legs that your average minifigure. His body design is very similar to the warrior. He carries a set of arrows on his back.

The scout and warrior have a weapon of their own. They have their own catapult. The piece is small, however a minifigure can go sailing when placed into the weapon.

The Ninjago series may have ended, but my kids still love their Ninjago Lego sets. The Golden Dragon is definitely a cool and unique set. The dragon has lots of unique bricks and movement rarely seen in a Lego kit. The problem with the set, however, is that the dragon is quite delicate. Since there are so many moveable pieces, the kids want to move them as they play. Unfortunately the wings and tail aren’t very secure and come off frequently. A gold minifigure is a pretty good find. The other two figures are OK, but nothing too special. Overall, the Golden Dragon is a set that Ninjago fans will enjoy.
