Pros:Great sound and picture, easy to use and navigate, lightweight and sleek design.
Cons:Wires, not enough internet options, confusing tech talk in manual.
The Bottom Line: This is an overall great system. It will blow your mind how well these little speakers perform. The system in a whole is astonishing.
I went to Rent-a-Center originally to get an air conditioner. I knew that when my husband got there he was going to want to look at surround sound systems. The one he finally decided on was the LG Network Blu-Ray Home Theater System. This sound system is astonishing. We listened to it at the store and it was loud. They showed us different things we could do with the system. My husband just had to have it. They were able to show us how good it sounded with the speakers hooked up. It vibrated the floor.

They do have the option for someone to come out and install your system for you but my husband wasn’t having it. He wanted to do itself. Well we got it home and boy did he have his work ahead of him. He got to the point where he needed to start running wires and that is when he asked one of his friends over to help him. It took them almost all night to hook it up. Not because it was difficult either. It had to be because of the beer. They were like two grown kids dancing together and falling all over. I am surprised one didn’t fall while stand on the chair to hang the speakers. Needles to say nobody got hurt but I did get some nice pictures. The DVD/Blu-Ray player is pretty neat. I haven’t owned a Blu-Ray player but the quality is excellent. On my regular player we sometimes had problems playing some of our rewritable discs like our music. Not on this one.
What it comes with?
This system comes with the DVD/Blu-Ray player, 1- sub-woofer, 1- center speaker, 4- surround speakers, remote, battery for remote, video cable, speaker cables, FM antenna, AM antenna, and a wireless LAN adaptor. You may need to buy extra speaker wire if you plan on putting the surround speakers further away from the sub-woofer.
What can it do?
This player is able to play both regular DVDs and Blu-ray discs. You can play Cds and listen to the radio. You can even use the wireless adaptor to get stuff off the Internet. You can get movies from Netflix or access You Tube. You can also access Vudu and Cinemanow. It is pretty neat. You have the ability to watch regular movies, listen to music, use the net, and you can even look at photos. I like the photo feature the most. There is a USB port where you plug in your wireless adaptor that you can plug in a memory card and see your pictures on the TV. You can use picture-in-picture. You can also hook it up to where you can listen hear what is playing on the TV through your surround sound speakers. I haven’t been able to do this yet. Still trying to figure that one out.
There are system requirements you need for this system to work. You need a high definition display that has component or HDMI input jacks. You need a BD-ROM disc with high definition content. Some discs require a HDMI or HDCP capable DVI input.
This unit when connected to my Vizio TV has great picture quality. I believe it is part the DVD player that has great picture but it also is the TV in which you hook it up to. If you hook it up to a bad quality TV you are not going to get such a great picture. I never have problems with static, blurriness, or discoloration. It is nice and clean viewing for me.
The speakers are small but they pack a punch. They each have different wattage outputs. The total is 1100w. The front and rear speakers have 180W x 2. The center has 180W. The sub-woofer has 200W. When you put all this together and have the settings set to your liking you can feel like you are in the movie theater. The front, rear, and center speakers weigh only about 1.1 lbs. they are 7.8 x 4 x 3.4 inches big. The sub-woofer is 9.5 lbs. and is 7.8 x 15.2 x 11 inches.
This speaker system is just great. The speakers have great sound quality. We actually had to move the sub-woofer away from the TV because it would cause the entertainment center to vibrate and that would cause static on the TV. Sometimes when watching a video there are parts that are louder than others like fight scenes and accidents. With this system however you have no problems. You do not get any distortion or static. It does get loud but it doesn't affect the performance of the speakers. With these speakers you get a nice clean, crisp sound. My son has the urge frequently to turn up the volume and this system just goes with the flow. It doesn't cause pauses in the sound output either.
In order to get that clean and crisp sound you have to make sure your equalizer is set to the right settings. If you have your bass set to high it can cause the speakers to sound muffled. It goes the other way too if you have the treble set too high it will just sound like someone screaming. The speakers will deliver whatever you tell them too. The key is to make sure they are balanced and you will get the best sound from these speakers.
I am not very good when it comes to navigating the newer technology. I want something that is simple and I don’t want to have to read a 100 page owner’s manual just to figure out how to use the basic controls. This system isn’t like that at all. I found it very easy to navigate and even easier to understand how the functions work. You control everything from your remote so everything is right in your hands. No need to have ten different remotes because you can set this remote up to be able to control your TV set too. In my case though I have to have two remotes because I have a Comcast box. You can switch quickly and easily from regular television to music or video. It is as simple as a touch of a couple buttons.
On some systems I have had in the past they were pretty hard to read on screen. This one however had nice printing so you can see the words clearly. The picture quality of the selections is excellent and I have no problems with deciphering what I am selecting.
This product comes with a limited warranty. For labor there is a 90 day warranty from the date of purchase. Parts are warranted for 1 year from date of purchase. If you do have to get parts replaced the new parts only get a warranty for the remaining time you had on the original parts. The warranty does not apply to damages or operating problems that are a result from shipping, installation, adjustment of controls, calibration, maintenance, or failure to maintain, normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, accidents, lightening strikes, or other natural causes, alteration, incorrect voltage usage. It does not cover anything outside of defect in material or workmanship.
I can think of a few things that would make this product better. First thing would be wireless speakers. With wireless speakers you wouldn’t need all that wiring in the back of your systems or in my case stapled to the walls. Next would be with the wireless Internet option. I wish there were more things you could access besides music or movies. I would like to be able to check my e-mail or Epinions page. That would be something neat. I also think that set up could be a little bit easier. I haven’t been able to get the sound from the TV to come out the surround speakers yet. I get a little confused with all the technical terms in the owner’s manual. I am not an expert on hooking up surround sound so I think if they explained it a little better that would be great.
Other than the few little things that could make this a better product I think this is a wonderful system. It has great sound and picture quality. It is easy to navigate. It has a nice sleek design. It is not big and bulky or heavy at all. This isn’t really the size system my husband wanted but it will have to do until he can find the one he absolutely loves. This product has a descent warranty and since I got it from Rent-A-Center mine is under warranty through them until I pay it off. That is when the manufacturer warranty will kick in. For me it is a great deal. If you are looking for a good quality surround sound system this is one you should definitely look into. It is a great starter system. My husband will eventually want to upgrade to something louder (heaven help me) but I am happy they didn’t have any bigger ones available when we went there. This is just right for me.
