Inside Out - Manchester Grand Hyatt (San Diego, CA)

Written: Jul 31 '05 (Updated May 30 '06)
Pros:Location, Appearance
Cons:Bad Customer Service, Expensive (room rate, parking, and Internet access are all pricey)
The Bottom Line: Too many oversights by the hotel staff. I have yet to find a place in downtown San Diego that is really great on service.

I've stayed at this hotel twice in the past year. Once in December and once in July. December stays are nice because it is not as busy as it was in July. To start with, the room amenities met with my standard Hyatt expectations (hair dryer, coffee maker, cable TV, clock radio, iron/ironing board, 25" TV, two telephones with voice mail, air conditioning, safe, etc.).

For the most part the stay in San Diego was enjoyable because I did not need to stay in my room except to unwind from a long busy day and to sleep.

While in the room I noticed that one of the night stand lamps was broken and the sitting chair was missing a leg. I called down to the front desk and asked to to fix it and they told me that they would send a technician to do this. The technician came but we were still showering and getting ready so I asked him to come back later but no earlier than 30 minutes so that we could continue to get ready and get out of there for the day. He NEVER came back and we were there for several more days.

We were there for the week of July 4th and for the entire week there was this window washing apparatus outside blocking our view. But we went outside to view the fireworks so it was not a big deal.

We wrote letters home to each of us every day. But the maid service did not check the stationary to see that it was replenished each day. I went to the front desk to ask them to restock the stationary and they smiled and told me that they would send a note to have it done. This hotel has many rooms in it (two towers) and they never asked me my room number. I guess I know now why the stationary was never replenished.
