Pros: view, view, view! Massage in Club One.
Cons: In-Hotel Restaurant.
The Bottom Line: A nice excursion from everyday life is well worth the cost. This place delivers that.

| jepoybato's Full Review: The Fairmont San Francisco |
While I agree with some of the other epinions, that the SF Fairmont may not be the best value (i.e. return on investment), a stay there is worth the price. For approximately $350 we got an 11th floor room in the tower, breakfast for two and parking.
The room was a standard size single room with a queen bed, a desk (w/ high speed access), comfy chair w/ ottoman, t.v., honor bar, etc that were of suitable quality for what you would expect from the Fairmont chain. The bathroom was large and spacious with marble.
While the room was nice, the true beauty is in the view! From our window (room 1107), the panoramic view stretched from Treasure Island on the right to the Marin side of the Golden Gate bridge on the left. Between those two, stood Coit tower and Alcatraz island in great detail. You can also see the cable cars go by slowly in the streets below. A very post-card moment.
UPDATE: Here are some photos of the view from the room: http://www.jepoy.net/together/photo_albums/first_anniversary/
The lobby is beautiful, and while it has been remodeled, it still has a little "rough around the edges" feel to the classic design (i.e. it feels authentic, rather than artificial).
We only had one issue, specifically a double-charge for parking. As things occasionally go wrong, it is not a big deal. How the hotel handles a mistake is a testament to their customer service. The attendant promptly removed the double billing without a fuss, which scored them major points in my book (we've all been there when it is clearly the hotel/store's fault and it is still a hassle to get them to correct the problem) but that's what I would expect from a top-tier hotel chain.
The breakfast was mediocre in the hotel restaurant. It is apparent that restaurant's livelyhood is the hotel and not the quality of the food. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't particulary good either. The eggs were a little over-done and the staff seemed rushed. I do not know about their dinner service. However, if you have time, I would suggest eating at the Jean D'Arc restaurant, about 2 blocks away(http://www.cornellhotel.com/jeanne/index.shtml). The food is always great and well worth the trip.
Overall, a highly enjoyable experience and for a special weekend (anniversary, etc) it is well worth the price and definatly sets the mood. Fairmont staff is always helpful and willing to go that extra-mile (rose pedals on the bed, champagne, etc) if you request it.
Hope this review helps...
