I am delighted to have discovered the Hotel Rex! My husband and I stayed there for 10 days in August and were VERY satisfied.

First of all, you can't ask for a better location. Buses and cable cars are a block away. Lots of shops and restaurants are in walking distance. Union Square is just down the street.

The rooms are cozy--some would say small--but we had a queen bed, two night stands, an armoire, and a desk. The bathroom was large and well-lighted, had a massaging shower head, a magnifying mirror, was stocked with plenty of towels, robes and Aveda products. Housekeeping was prompt and friendly.

There is a wine reception for a hour each evening in the large, book-lined bar area on the first floor. Lots of big comfy leather chairs to relax in. It's a great place to meet friends and hang out.

The hotel also offers a library with two computer terminals and FREE internet access.

And the restaurant is a nice find. Sometimes after a day of sightseeing one is just too exhausted to find a place for dinner. Cafe Andree to the rescue! We ate there several times and I were very pleased with the menu (light meals and more substantial fare are offered) and the wine list.
