Cheeca Lodge is a lushly landscaped resort by the Atlantic Ocean in the Florida Keys (Islamorada to be exact). The lobby was comfortable and our room was a garden suite with a small verandah, a spacious bathroom, a casually elegant sitting room, and a master bedroom. The style of the room was relaxed luxury, which is suited for the resort because the Cheeca Lodge motto is "barefoot elegance." It was clean and nicely appointed. The small verandah served as a great place for breakfast. There were several secluded hot tubs placed within each group of garden suite buildings. The hot tubs were enclosed by a growth of tropical plants and trees. The pool was all right, not that big but not tiny either. The restaurants were good and the service was excellent. However, the disappointment comes at the beach. The beach is small, long, and tranquil...the perfect setting for a resort such as this. But if you were to go into the water right by the water's edge, you couldn't because there were sharp corals or some type of underwater growth on the bottom. If you walk out on the dock that goes out to the ocean, you can dive off the side and into the water. But guests may be disturbed because there were hordes of fish surrounding the dock poles, only steps away from where you emerge from the water to go back on the dock. Overall, the resort was satisfactory and would serve as a good luxury resort for families.
