| bigredesq's Full Review: Four Seasons Palm Beach |
I stayed in this hotel during August (through a package with Liberty Travel - rates are somewhat reasonable in the offseason). Upon entering the hotel grounds, I was surprised by how small the grounds were. The front of the property, which includes about 8 tennis courts, is right next to the main road. The back of the hotel has a pool which leads right to the beach. However, that was the only disappointing thing about the hotel.
The service is spectacular (or right on par with a typical Four Seasons - i.e. Evian spritz poolside, maid service 2-3 times a day). The rooms are unbelievable - some of the nicest I have stayed in. I stayed in the cheapest category room and it still was enormous. The bathroom was simply the best bathroom I have ever seen. TV, enclosed toilet area, shower, bath and two sinks. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever slept in (Down comforter, feather bed, etc.) The room was decorated in cool light colors - a welcome relief from the beach.
If you stay on the hotel grounds, you basically either have to swim, sunbathe or play tennis (the hotel has relationships with nearby golf clubs, whose courses you can play - though if you're into golf, you may prefer the Breakers which has its own golf course). Also, given that the hotel is located at the south end of the Island and is about a 15-20 minute drive from Worth Ave/The Breakers, you may feel a bit isolated if you don't have a rental car. (For those of you not familiar with Palm Beach, the Breakers is a famous luxury hotel located near Worth Avenue. Worth Avenue is the main shopping/restaurant district). The hotel has one of Florida's top restaurants, but you definitely will want to frequent Worth Ave for nightlife, shopping etc. Thus, unless you want to take taxis everywhere, you may want to strongly consider renting a car if you stay here.
As seems to be the norm nowadays, the hotel tends to nickel and dime you with all sorts of fees (tennis fees, parking) etc, but if money and location are not a concern, this is definitely the place to stay in Palm Beach.
The hotel's 2 chief competitors seem to be The Breakers (located on the other end of the island) and the Ritz Carlton (a few doors away). From what I've heard, The Breakers and Ritz Carlton tend to attract a stodgier crowd, while the Four Seasons attracts a younger crowd.
