| magcc's Full Review: Four Seasons Palm Beach |
This was the hotel stay of my dreams. A pair of plane tickets burning a hole in our pockets, plus a need to get away before the holidays descended, led to a trip to Palm Beach at the beginning of December. A fortuitous connection got us a good rate at the Four Seasons, and we were off.
We arrived at the hotel by rental car. The door staff and valet parkers greeted us warmly, and took our bags. We checked in smoothly and went straight to our room. The room was huge - with a wonderful big marble bathroom with two sinks, a king-size bed with great cotton sheets, and a small balcony overlooking the Atlantic ocean. Bliss.
We stayed for five days/four nights. The first morning, we ordered room service continental breakfast, with a mixed basket of bread and pastry. A beautiful table materialized on our balcony, complete with some of the best croissants I have EVER eaten. By the fourth day, we were ordering nothing but croissants - they were that good - buttery, crisp outside, soft inside. Somewhere along the line, we learned that the hotel had imported a French baker, who makes all of the pastry including those fabulous croissants.
The hotel has several restaurants - a high end one only open for dinner 5-6 nights a week, a mid-priced one open most of the time, a bar called "the living room" and an outdoor lunch spot by the pool. We ate at the mid-priced one for dinner one night - the food was lovely, and well complemented by the ocean breezes. We also had the tasting menu in the high end restaurant. That restaurant is - without reservation - a world class restaurant. The food was of a quality that is rarely surpassed. Interestingly, we learned that only about 15% of the restaurant's patrons are hotel guests - it attracts a clientele from the area. We had everything from fresh local fish, to foie gras, to white truffles and wabe beef. Altogether awesome.
Outside facilities include a heated outdoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, the Atlantic ocean, and tennis courts. Pool attendants supply ice water and fresh towels, and poolside food & beverage service is available.
The hotel also has a great spa. I didn't avail myself of a massage or any other treatment, but spent plenty of time in the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. If you want, you can have an outdoor massage in a little cabana overlooking the ocean.
Service in the hotel is up to the great caliber of the whole Four Seasons chain. The front desk, the valet parking guys, all knew us by name (and car!) instantly.
It helps to have a car to get around - there isn't much to do within walking distance - although it would certainly be possible to spend a week at the hotel without leaving the premises - if you wanted such sybaritic indulgence.
The hotel's bath amenities are Bulgari "Eau the vert" - a wonderful lime scented line - and icing on the splendid cake.
