| rjlntex's Full Review: Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa |
I spent my honeymoon at this resort and I am very pleased with my choice for such a special occasion. The resort is absolutely beautiful. The pictures on the website do not do it justice for the place is "eye-popping". My wife and I actually asked the hotel if they sell a video touring the resort. Unfortunately, they do not. This is not my first time to stay in nice resorts so my reaction is not that of a newbie staying somewhere other than a Motel 6. I am quite well traveled and this is now my favorite resort.
You can make a vacation without ever leaving the resort but of course you will wish to explore the island. The hotel pools and lagoon seem to go on forever. This is great for even during a high hotel occupancy it is never a problem to obtain several lounge chairs side-by-side. You can surf in the ocean behind the hotel or a very nearby beach that also offers snorkeling. I would recommend these garden view rooms in particular (room numbers 1040 -1046). The garden is so pretty and you still have a partial view of the ocean but at a lesser cost. These rooms are on the first floor and you can walk right off the patio and into the feast at the luau which occurs right outside your window. The hotel staff can help you plan all your activities. It is well worth spending 20 minutes with them when you first arrive and they can steer your activities in the right direction and then they will book all your reservations for dinners, tours, golf, helicopters, sailing, etc. This is nice so you can further relax and let them become your daily planner. This service is free. The Hyatt is located on the sunny side (South) of the Island and therefore you are less likely to experience rainy days. The North side of the island is much wetter. The West side is the least tropical. The East side is very pretty but I was unimpressed by the resorts on the east when I compared them to the Hyatt. On your last day. Book a late flight out. You can request a late checkout. 3:00pm instead of 12:00pm. The Hyatt also offers a courtesy room to use after 3:00 pm for 45 minutes to shower and clean up. This is a great way to still play all day at the resort and clean up prior to your flight out.
Some things to consider: Kauai is considered a honeymooner's island. If you are single and "on the prowl" you would be better off visiting Maui. The nightlife in Kauai moves at a snails pace. But if your goal is relaxation and a tropical exploration then Kauai, being the most tropical of all the Hawaiian islands, is exactly what you want. A helicopter ride is a must. The cost is about $170/person for sixty minutes. Luaus cost about $55. I suffered a 60 minute timeshare presentation next store to the Hyatt and they paid for one helicopter ride and one Luau. I thought it was worth it.
