| robsowin's Full Review: Wailea Marriott, an Outrigger Resort |
My wife, three year old, and myself stayed here for 2 weeks in early June 03. It was an excellent choice! The hotel is cleaned to perfection daily (always someone wiping) and the staff has a friendly smile and demeanor. You know its good when you walk by with the family and the staff stops cleaning, looks you in the eye, smiles, waves to your child, and then continues on. (Rather than the usual ignore you or not get out of your way type staff.) Very guest oriented and friendly.
We walked around the resort and were amazed at how non-resort like it is. What I mean is that it feels like you are away on vacation in a different place, not the "disney-like" hotels that wind up looking the same (They are next door). There is live music every night at the pool, traditional hawaiian. Nothing better than waking up at 5am and going for a walk or run along the beach walkway, outstanding! The only issue we had is that there are two beaches to the left and right of the resort, and nothing directly in front except rocks. It's only a five minute walk, but we forgave that in a day or two. Next door you'll find the 5-star hotels and their "disney-like" pools and decor (their beach is in front), just walk in and take a quick dip, it's pretty casual.
The Mele Mele lounge has a great happy hour, the Hula Moons restaurant serves up some great meals. Room service took about 20-minutes and the food came piping hot. Go for the seafood buffet that they have on some Fridays, excellent, fresh, and worth the price.
If you can afford it, go for the ocean front deluxe rooms in building 2. You are literally 30 feet away from the ocean, facing it directly, and the sunset is in your room! It's the closest on the whole island. It's an upgrade, but you'll run to the room every night. Amazing!!! The rooms have a small fridge and if you stay for 2 weeks like we did, there is a supermarket about a 10-minute drive away. Fruits, breads, cheeses, BEER. It will all fit in there.
If you rent a car, and you should, the valet parking is FREE. Just tip the guys a couple of bucks and skip the "parking it in the garage and walking" bit.
We are already thinking of visitng Maui next year with more family, just can't get enough
