Pros: A true Hawaiian resort, beautiful grounds, excellent staff, an A resort
Cons: NONE!
The Bottom Line: An outstanding resort - a credit to both Marriott and Outrigger brands. It may not be the newest or showiest resort, but it is definitely the BEST!

The Hotel and Staff
This was our first trip to Hawaii and we were absolutely thrilled with our choice! This resort is now a Marriott resort (very recently) and has all that you have come to expect from Marriott resorts. The lobby and front desk area are open air and have a tiki style roof - the most beautiful and different lobby area we've ever been in. We felt right then and there that we were in Hawaii! When we pulled up, we were warmly greeted and presented with beautiful fresh leis - a nice touch. The staff at this hotel were some of the friendliest we've ever encountered. Although it was only 8pm their time, it was 1am our time, so all we wanted to do was get to our room and they checked us in quickly and got us right to our room. We had our preschooler and infant with us and they were great the whole way out, but were more than ready for bed at this point, so they had the crib brought up immediately. The room is very nice - pretty much a standard, nice room. We had a king bed and the couch pulled out into a bed, which was great for our son. There was plenty of room for the crib without cramping the room at all. We had a nice view out over the front of the resort, but could see the mountains and ocean and heard no noise from below. We had a nice balcony with a little table and chairs. They do have a little refrigerator in the room under the bathroom vanity sink - which we found after a day or so...a nice thing to have. The Shops of Wailea are right next door and they have some great shops, restaurants and a great deli - definitely check it out! There are some nice resorts in the area, but definitely this one is the best! Gorgeous sunsets every night - you feel like you're in Hawaii here not just at a nice hotel anywhere.
The Area
The area of Wailea is very upscale and quiet. Very nice homes in the area and all the resorts there are top notch. This one is the oldest in the area and is closest to the water - apparently the codes changed after this one was built, so none of the others are as close to the water.
Pools
They have 3 pools and a kids pool, but we pretty much stayed around the kids pool, although the other pools were really nice. There are also a couple big slides by the kids pool, so it was the place for kids of all ages! I understand that the neighboring resort, the Grand Wailea has THE pool, but ours was just fine!! There are beaches on either side of the resort, so were able to do the beach thing as well.
Restaurants
We didn't really eat much at the resort, but when we did, it was excellent. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Maybe a little pricey, but the food was excellent. We went to the Luau there and it was a great evening! We took our 2 kids and they even brought out a high chair for the baby! Shop around for prices on tickets though - if you get them at the resort, they're more expensive.
Sightseeing
It's good to rent a car while you're in Maui. Parking here is complimentary - a nice touch! Don't miss the Drive to Hana - plan it to be all day. It's long, but so well worth it. But don't get caught going back after dark - it's a very windy road. Also, drive up to see Haleakala Crater - so, so worth it and it's breathtaking! This island has lots to see and do, but still very unurbanized. We enjoyed the resort for a few days and did some sightseeing the other days. If you're not used to the sun or tropical weather, be sure you bring along hats, sunglasses and sunscreen! There were breezes all the time while we were there - such a nice feeling!
My final word
This is one of the best, most relaxing vacations we've ever taken and will definitely stay here again!
