Pros:Location, Good Value, Service
Cons:Crowded, Noisy, Restaurants
The Bottom Line: Good hotel for a good value.
Recently my wife and I went on our honeymoon to the Hawaiian Islands. Visited Oahu, Kauai, and Maui, in that order (Check out my reviews for the hotels on those islands).
In Oahu we stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki, which is really the heart of Waikiki.
PROS:
LOCATION:
Excellent location, overlooking the water and Diamondhead not to far in the distant. If you want nightlife this is the hotel for you. Although my wife and I didn't hit any of the nightlife spots, yeah I know we are boring, the Sheraton is suppose to have one of the best night spots in Waikiki.
VALUE:
The price was right for us. Since we only going to be in Oahu for 3 nights, we wanted an affordable hotel, we went crazy with hotels on the other islands. The Sheraton offers a comfortable stay with average room size for the type of hotel it is.
SERVICE:
The staff was friendly, but not over friendly. They did not go out of there way for us while we were there. Although upon check-in we were sent a bottle of champagne and the check in attendant wanted to upgrade our room, but they were completely sold out, which is amazing given all of the rooms they have.
CONS
CROWDED:
Waikiki and Oahu for that matter are very crowded. If you are looking to get away from it all don't go to Waikiki. Upon entering the lobby there are people everywhere. We were told that 1.2 million people live on the Hawaiian Islands, of that 1.2 million, 800,000 live on the island of Oahu. Basically it is the Hawaiian Islands city. Getting back to the hotel, with some many people, restaurants are usually packed, as is everything else.
NOISY:
Our room was on the eighth floor. The people in the hotel were not noisy, but we were situated above where the buses arrive and depart. When the buses go in reverse they making a very loud beeping noise, which would work us up bright and early in the morning. We didn't complain about it since we were getting up around that time anyway and since we were only staying there for 3 nights.
RESTAURANTS:
We ate only one restaurant that the Sheraton Waikiki owned. Unfortunately I forget the name of it, it was right near the pool the. The was not that great, for the price paid and as I said before it was very crowded. Also the Sheraton Waikiki doesn't really offer that many restaurants to begin with. I know there is restaurant on the top floor of the hotel, but we didn't have enough time to go there.
So overall if you are basically looking for a good hotel, not a great hotel, in Waikiki the Sheraton Waikiki is good choice.
