Not as luxurious as expected

Pros:Great lobby, good location
Cons:Rooms need updating, no pool, huge convention hotel
The Bottom Line: This is a good place to stay if you are part of a convention at the hotel or if you get an outstanding weekend rate.
This is supposed to be Hyatt's flagship hotel, however it falls far short of being a luxury hotel. This is a large convention hotel and not the place to stay at if you are looking for a convenient location for a weekend or short vacation. I stayed on the Regency Club level and the offerings in the lounge were paltry. Some snacks, chips and coffee out of a machine. The drinks at the Big Bar were good but expensive and the lobster and filet mignon at Stetson's were terrific. Be forewarned! Drinks at the Big Bar were $10 each and dinner at Stetson's was $200 for two without tip! Rooms are only average sized and the furnishings and amenities were rather dismal. Some rooms have outstanding views of the city and Lake Michigan, but watch out for rooms that face surrounding office and apartment buildings. The Hyatt is part of the Illinois Center complex which interconnects to an underground walkway which will take you from the hotel to Marshall Field's State Street store. Great for those brutal Chicago winters!
