| Erin2k's Full Review: The Palmer House? Hilton |
My sister invited me to stay at the Palmer House Hilton for one of her presentations. It was in Chicago, a place I have never been before. Hey she was getting a great discount how could I say no. When we got there we found she was quoted wrong by oh say $150.00. That is a lot of money for us cheap college students but still we trudge on. I found myself feeling very out of place at this hotel. People were very up tight and fancy looking. The hotel was huge and looked spectacular. There were shopping areas in the hotel, restaurants, and gift shops and on and on. The prices were a little on the steep side. If you can afford 529.00 a night I guess the prices of everything else really mean nothing. To us it did.
Okay on with our not so lovely stay. When we got there everything seemed awesome. The room was huge and there were two bathrooms, a desk, a nightstand, two small beds and a television inside an entertainment center. Okay first of the bathroom, they had nice shampoo, lotion, condition, mouthwash etc. Only the best for this hotel. The towels were large. The toilet on the other hand I hope you can wait twenty minutes before someone else has to go. I guess that is why there are two, right?
For the price of this hotel I guess maybe I was expecting too much. Come on though a 19 inch television that sits literally 12 feet from your bed how are you suppose to see anything. Maybe that was what the small chair with a footrest was for but for four people. The prices for a movie typically cost $9.95. Price to play a small boring list of Nintendo 64 games $9.95 for 60 minutes. Now that is ridiculous considering you can rent a game cheaper then that. Hey I guess the hotel has to make money some how.
The service was as the day went on just as I expected. We were looked down upon, given wrong information and just felt awful. We asked for pizza delivery places and given places that don't deliver. To eat at their restaurant you have to have the proper attire, which on vacation we obviously didn't have.
The water pipe at 2:30 in the morning running for an hour because our neighbor was showering was fun too. When we said something they had no sympathy, because we had one of the best rooms and they couldn't move us. How kind of them.
Their huge fitness room was cool but you have to pay ten dollars a day. Can you imagine having to pay to workout in the hotel gym? It was quite large and had a ton of equipment but I wasn't going to pay. They pool was a nice size but for the amount of rooms, twenty-three floors you would of thought it would be bigger. At least they provided towels in the pool area.
Now this isn't a cheap place to stay so of course your continental breakfast is 9.00 but if you want to upgrade for some eggs and maybe bacon you have to pay 13.00 dollars. Okay maybe that wasn't too bad.
The good thing was they had valet parking. It cost $31.00 dollars a day to park after all it was in Chicago. The sites were great and there were people who helped you with directions to your destination. Overall I would have to give it a thumbs down, maybe even two. I did learn that is not the life for me. I didn't feel like I was "living large” I felt out of place. I could have gotten better service from the comfort inn at a better price
