Bad Name. Bad Hotel.

Pros:running water, electricity, cable TV
Cons:Service, Staff, View, Restaurant/Bar, Early Wake Up
The "international" hospitality ends up being European, snobbish, and cold. The lobby and the restaurants are cold and uninviting and we ended up eating and racking up a bar tab elsewhere. Which, by the way, the Swissotel was rather far away from.
After spending the following day at Taste of Chicago, we returned to our room around 4pm only to find the maid cleaning our room. After nicely telling her that we "had to go" she still took her sweet time.
Ironically this was the same maid that woke us up at 9am on one of the rare mornings my wife and I have to sleep in while the kids are with the grandparents.
While waiting for the maid to finish cleaning, we did have a nice view of Navy Pier from the hallway window instead of the construction site view we see from our room window.
All in all, I'd recommend the Intercontinental on Michigan Ave. Around the same price, closer to shopping and night life, and the best room service fries you'll ever have at 1am.
Skip the Swissotel... it's even got a bad name.
