THE place to stay in Chicago.

Written: Nov 23 '03
Pros:Everything about this property is a PRO.
Cons:Too minimal to list.
The Bottom Line: The Westin River North not only has the best location for a weekend of walking the city but the room and service far surpass average. Highly recommended.

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at the Westin River North over the past Memorial Day weekend...3 nights in a lush, fabulous room. Perfect.

As we pulled up to the property we emptied our own car (the poor old bell hop had his hands full--hey, we're young, we can handle it!) and as the valet drove our car away we proceeded to the front desk. At the present time the bar/lounge in the lobby is being re-modeled so it wasn't much to look at although we're looking forward to coming back to see the end result. The staff at the desk were courteous and kind and honored our last minute request to change our room's view from city to river. Done, no problems.

The room is very nice. We had the King Deluxe room with the river view. Very happy we changed the view from city to river as the view was excellent. The room had a great decorating scheme, muted yellows and browns with fabulous mahogany pieces. The bathroom though was one of the highlights. It's quite spacious and done in a black marble with a unique silver sink. It also has the best lighted mirror ever...you'll look perfect no matter what. It also included a smaller round mirror (attached to the wall with a movable arm) which magnifies...also lighted. The shower is a memorable one as it has 2 shower heads...lots and lots of water with excellent pressure. There is a phone in the bathroom next to the toilet for those of you who can't resist the tempation of calling a friend while doing your deed. Ick. Now on to the best part...the bed. The Westin does advertise their new Heavenly Bed...and most heavenly it is. I must say at the end of our stay we were contimplating how the heck we could smuggle the bed home with us...it's that comfortable. The duvet and pillows add to the Heavenly effect. At the end of a long day of wandering around the city I couldn't wait to go to bed. Can't say that about most other hotels. The turn-down service was equally as fantastic and the mini-bar is nicely stocked and (as always) grossly over-priced. A nice touch is the Starbucks coffee you have ready to make with your cute little coffeemaker.

All in all this hotel is up there as one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of staying. I recommend it highly and am planning on taking my parents there for Father's Day weekend. You know I'm impressed when I bring my 'rents into the picture. If you have the chance to stay a couple nights in Chicago, do yourself a favor and book a room at the Westin. Your mind and body will thank you!
