| pantazis5's Full Review: Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers |
My husband is a sportswriter for one of our local newspapers. He has won over 13 awards for excellence in writing. His most recent award was for Sportswriter of the year from New England Press Association. This is a major award program that all of the newspapers in this area and around us participate in.
When my husband wins an award we get to stay at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston for the ceremony and the banquet dinner. The Park Plaza is an expensive hotel, naturally. However, during these award ceremonies they offer packages to the participants. We were able to have a room for two nights for 99.00 a night.
Driving into Boston from our neck of the woods is always a challenge for us. We are not used to city driving and so getting there is a very stressful event.
We drive into the Back Bay area of Boston, through the Storrow Drive exit.
At the Plaza we ALWAYS miss the correct turn in our directions and have to turn around once and start over. When we finally arrive at the Historic Park Plaza we are thoroughly stressed and frustrated.
Then we enter the beautiful lobby and the stress of having driven in to Boston is forgotten for the time we are within the walls of the Park Plaza.
When we first arrived at the Park Plaza we were overcome with the elegant surroundings and worried that the jeans we wore were not acceptable in this environment.
Our worries went away when we began to see the people who were wandering in the lobby. This lobby is a true "melting Pot". People from everywhere were wandering through experiencing the grand Park Plaza.
We checked into our room and were given our room key. A porter took our bags from us and headed to the fancy elevator where the elevator operator was waiting for us. The porter took us to our room, opened the door and turned on the lights showing it to us.
It was a lovely room. Old fashioned really. I was surprised to see that is was not nearly as fancy as the lobby. In fact it was rather small. Our room was not the most fancy suite by any means but for the Park Plaza I truly expected the room to be a bit more elegant. I did not get a chance to see the most expensive rooms so I cannot rate them. This was a moderately priced room. It had a small table and a double bed.
Our window gave us a view of the city. It is fun to sit in the window high above Boston and watch the people on the ground. My husband and I enjoyed this for quite a while.
We changed our clothes and returned to the lobby. A cafe in the center looked like a lovely place to have lunch. We sat there and ordered a sandwich. Moderately priced food, not spectacular. The pleasure was in sitting in the lobby to eat and watching the people as they wandered to their destinations.
In the evening it was time for the banquet. We were there for a banquet to see my husband receive his award and to watch the other award winners.
The dinner was wonderful. Prime rib with all the trimmings. The Ballroom was set in a news reporters paradise. Clipping of all the award winners adorned the room next door where everyone could go and view the winning copy. News reporters from everywhere in New England filled the room. Waiters and Waitresses brought everything we asked for to our table, plus a few things we didn't ask for. It was a lovely dinner. An absolutely magnificent place to have a ceremony of this magnitude.
The ceremony was three hours easily. We sat sipping drinks and watched while reporter after reporter stepped up to receive an award plaque or a monetary gift.
Everyone sat at round tables, there was not a bad place to sit everyone could see the proceedings.
The following day, we had the entire time to ourselves to enjoy Boston. We rode the Swan Boats and shopped in some nice stores. It was a nice day for us. Going to Boston is very special.
I highly recommend to anyone invited to attend a ceremony or a banquet at the Park Plaza that you go and experience first hand the historic Park Plaza hotel. It will be a truly wonderful experience filled with terrific memories.
Those of you corporate owners who want to give your employees a nice experience may also want to consider allowing the Park Plaza to host one of your banquets. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
