Boston Sheraton

Written: Apr 25 '02
Pros:Had rooms available
Cons:Expensive, unpleasant service, dreadful rooms
The Bottom Line: There are other hotels with nicer rooms, lower charges and nicer staff. Steer clear!

Having been told at the last minute that I had to go on a four day business trip with two colleagues to Boston, just before Christmas, I decided the company could stump up for a nice hotel, and after browsing the Sheraton website, decided that the Sheraton Boston would be a suitable place to stay.

Initial impressions were good, as the lobby is very nicely presented, with lots of gold and marble, and a nice large check-in desk. However, the attitude of the desk clerks left a bit to be desired, as they insisted on referring to us by surname only, i.e no Mr or Sir, just This is Cooper's room key, this is Mason's room key etc.

Stepping out of the lift was like stepping into a different world. Brown and purple carpets, dirty white walls, and mahogany room doors a-la 1972. The room fared less style, with red marks on my carpet (kept trying to assure myself it wasn't blood), a 1970's Zenith T.V (wooden cabinet, silver fronted, dodgy picture), and old mahogany furniture. The shower was more of a dribble, and the water reached nothing hotter than blood warm. Not nice on a cold December morning!

The floorboards creaked, not only in my room, but the room next door, and the plumbing system for the corridor seemed to run under the bedroom floor - I spent the night listening to toilets being flushed and showers being run (or dribbled!).

Breakfast the next morning was an expensive buffet, of mildly warm sausages and bacon, with congeled eggs. The toast was the only nice bit (self cooked). $14.95!

one night's accomodation and breakfast for 3 people came to $1,330!!! $80 of this was for three 2 minute calls to the UK.

We didn't stay a second night, and I personally will never stay at a Sheraton hotel again. Value for money is not a way to describe the Boston Sheraton.
