Sheraton Boston- Unbiased

Written: Sep 08 '02
Pros:Location, indoor/outdoor pool
Cons:Housekeeping forgets stuff, concierge recommends crummy restaurants, no minibar, parking fee
The Bottom Line: This is a nice location, but the rooms lack some ammenities. Housekeeping is sub-par for a Sheraton.

We stayed in the Boston Sheraton in September 2002. I had heard that rooms were recently renovated. There were newer comforters and sheets on the beds. However they were white and readily show dirt. The furnishings were nice, but not overly elaborate.

The location is great. The Sheraton is connected with a huge mall and the convention center. There are lots of places nearby for food such as the famous Boston Seafood restaurant, Cheesecake Factory and other chains. You are also very close to local eateries. The subway is just a block away and the system is awesome. It is very easy to get around.

The hotel has a restaurant, a healthclub (surcharge), and an indoor/outdoor pool. The amenities were good.

The room itself has one phone, a jack for computers, NO MINIBAR, iron, a coffee maker with supplies and NO SAFE. I liked the fact that with the coffeemaker they provided both ceramic and disposable cups with lids. The climate control unit was noisy and I could never get the room set to a good temperature.

Each of the six days we were there housekeeping forgot something. At check-in we had no soap. The next day it was shampoo. Another day they forgot to leave the sugar/creamer for the coffee. I was disappointed in this.

The concierge, although friendly and helpful, did not recommend good restaurants. They obviously are compensated to recommend certain eateries. The Indian place they recommended was bad for example. Also, you often had to wait quite a few minutes for assistance from the concierge.

The parking is very expensive, but in-line with Boston rates. It is $33/day to park. Also, our rate included one free kids meal with every adult meal. We found the one restaurant that Sheraton owns to be very overpriced so we never used this benefit.
