Don't Miss This Place!

Written: Apr 03 '01
Pros:The whole place is beautiful!
Cons:The stores are expensive.
The Bottom Line: This place is beautiful, don't miss it.

My first visit to Las Vegas included a trip to the strip, where I saw the Venetian. If you are going to Vegas, you HAVE to stop and see this place! As you can tell, it is
a take on Venice, Italy. I heard a rumor that people *from* Venice actually come to see it because it is so close to Venice, minus the crime and dirt. How true that is, I don't know, but it says something about the place.

The Venetian is really a tribute to the detail of Vegas. The detail in this place is amazing. First of all, just outside is a piece the canal, which winds all over the resort. Yes, you can take a gondola ride! It is a great idea and a good photo opportunity. When you walk inside, look up; there is a Michelangelo replica on the ceiling. It will take your breath away! All the ceilings are intricate, with detail in every corner. The shops in The Venetian are ridiculously overpriced, but are great for browsing and window-shopping. Every once in awhile you will see actors dressed in Shakespearean Venice clothing singing, acting, juggling and doing other various entertainment. It is a nice touch and I was impressed with the quality of the entertainment! The square in The Venetian is fantastic. First of all, the ceiling is painted like the sky and if you aren't paying attention, you will think you walked outside! Only on closer inspection did I notice the sprinklers. But the buildings and the sky look great. Again, the attention to detail is just amazing. The resort also has a Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. I did not attend this, but I did walk by it and a lot of people seemed impressed. Food-wise, you can have an expensive meal or just get some pizza or a cup of coffee. Other resorts should take note of this. There are also moving sidewalks to help people get in and out of the resort in a timely manner. This might seem like overkill but think about it, the packs of people move all at the same speed, so there is no gridlock. It’s a great idea that has been picked up by many casinos.

Speaking of casinos, The Venetian is a casino too you know. I found it average as far as gambling goes. I was kind of surprised to see that the dollar slot tokens were so plain.
I have no knowledge of the hotel, but if it is half as nice as the resort itself, it must be really great!

In conclusion, if you are in Las Vegas, you have to go see the Venetian. It is beautiful on the eye, and has to be one of the nicest things on the strip. Don't miss it.
