Pros:In the heart of Times Square, access to almost anywhere in NYC!
Cons:In the heart of Times Square, noisy and VERY populated
The Bottom Line: A great hotel with terrific service at all levels in the heart of The Great White Way in New York City (Times Square)
The Doubletree Guest Suites hotel in New York City is located at 47th and Broadway, right in the heart of Times Square and "The Great White Way". It is a hotel full of amenities, including weekend packages (including a Broadway show, dinner, hotel room, etc.), a swimming pool, a wonderful cafe and rooms that are roomy and comfortable.
The hotel also has good security, which for this location is a must in my book. You go inside and disappear into the calm of your hotel. The minute you step out of the elevator (which brings you DOWN to ground level, vs. having the hotel at ground level access) onto the street, you feel like you are truly in New York City, a city which never sleeps and after September 11th REALLY needs your support.
Taxis are almost always available at this location - to take you either uptown to the museums, downtown to view Ground Zero (if you so desire), or to the airports. The staff at this hotel are all terrific - from the concierge to the main desk to the cafe/restaurant waiters. And they even answer their phones after 2 rings -which for many New York hotels is rare!
The hotel rooms are all spacious, with toiletries and amenities that you now find in many hotels (shampoo, soap, shoe polish, etc.). Despite being right in the middle of times Square, the noise level is really quite unnoticeable -you may hear a siren occasionally, but that's about it.
This is a hotel that is well worth the price, which is reasonable (rates average around $279-400, depending on the time of year, the size of the room and if you have a corporate relationship with Doubletree. Plus, if you are a Hilton member, you can earn Hilton Hhonors points at this hotel.
Stay here. You will be comfortable, in the thick of things when you want, and in the midst of quiet and solitude after a long day walking the streets of New York.
