Pros: Location and elegance of the lobby
Cons: Getting old and musty
The Bottom Line: If you want glitz, large rooms and loud people, go elsewhere. For sheer enjoyment of days gone by, stay here.

| jsbs104's Full Review: The Waldorf=Astoria? |
What a place, beautiful, embodied in history, steeped in tradition, the grande dame of NY hotels, the Waldorf Astoria. Walk through the lobby and you feel the ghosts of Astor, Rockefeller, Carnegie, JP Morgan. Approach the front desk and you know the staff is the creme de la creme of hotel staffs. Just sit in the lobby and feel like royalty. Now take the elevator to your room. Opening the door, the elegance of the furnishing, the thoughtfulness of the decor, the marble in the bathroom. Unfortunately the mustiness in the air. One must appreciate that older hotels will sometimes have the smell associated with its age and accept this fact. The rooms are not large but extremely relaxing. You may not have a view of anything other than another room across the alleyway or you may overlook Park Ave. In any event when staying at the Waldorf, appreciate it for what it has been and what it is, a historic hotel in the middle of Manhattan.
