Pros: Easy to get to, convenient locale, nice room, great staff.
Cons: Under renovation so some paint fumes.
The Bottom Line: The transition to Hotel Monaco is almost complete - give it a month for the paint fumes to subside, then this will be a great stay.

| readsteca's Full Review: Fifth Avenue Suites Hotel |
I booked a reservation fairly last minutes (within a week of visiting Portland) for business as a colleague needed help and hadn't made arrangements for me.
The rate on the web for the Fifth Avenue Suites was about the lowest going in downtown.
We flew into Portland in the early evening, and hopped on the MAX Light Rail from the airport to downtown - about a 20 minute trip. It was about a three block walk to the hotel from the stop on the rail and even with a little drizzle wasn't to bad. We arrived in time to have one glass of wine at the complementary wine tasting held every afternoon. I had a very nice regional Zinfandel, they had four varietals, and a local brew for sampling if you didn't enjoy vino. Needless to say, I'd wished we had time for a few glasses. The lobby area wasn't huge, but was very warm and inviting with big comfy chairs and a few nice couches for families. There was a nice fake fire crackling, and they had acrylic paints and easels set up for anyone who wanted to dabble at the arts while enjoying some beverages.
I joined the Kimpton Rewards club (a must for any visit as treatment seems to improve) and sure enough I was put in a suite for the night. The room was very plush, clean, and a bottle of wine, and some chocolates was waiting to welcome me to Portland, along with an nice welcome letter personalized with my name. I'm a golfer, and they did have a sleeve of logo balls for my use, I decided to leave those for the next guest.
The exercise room isn't huge either, but was complete enough to allow for a good workout prior to my dinner event. The business center was a little warm from the machines, but most that I've encountered are that way. They had two PC's for use, and free wi-fi throughout the hotel for guests and a nominal fee for non-guests of $5.00 a day. The machines were upto date, and the printers were full of paper and toner - a key sign to me that they pay attention.
Over all - I was very satisfied with my stay, and will return as I do business in Portland 8 or 10 times a year.
