| jonnykman's Full Review: Gold Coast Hotel & Casino |
Recently, I went out to Las Vegas to have a great time and thats exactly what I did. Caught a lot of shows, went to the Grand Canyon, gambled quite a bit - breaking even on the tables and sportsbooks, and had a great time at the Gold Coast hotel.
Staff
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They always had someone to greet you at the front desk and take care of your needs. I was told that the reason they go out of their way to help you so much is because this is a favorite of the locals. However, they treated me just as well as everyone else.
Rooms
Smallish, clean rooms with a southwestern theme and while they were not too terribly fancy they fit my needs just fine. The bathroom was small but they gave you lots of stuff like: lotion, shampoo separate conditioner. There is a window in the shower that helps out a lot (when its opened), you want a clean mirror for grooming.
Food
I though the food was excellent here for the prices and you really couldn't beat it.
We first ate at Arriva, which was very good. I would reccommend the baked Ziti. It was very good but awfully filling. My girlfriend loved the spaghetti and meatballs that she ordered as well. The prices at this Italian restaurant range from entrees $10-20 USD. The wine list has bottles of wine ranging from around $12-UP USD.
We also ate at the El Cortez which was very good as well. The specialty here is steaks and some seafood. I had their Prime Rib, which was EXCELLENT. It cost me $12.99 for a pretty good sized cut of it. My girlfriend had a Salad of some sort which I believe was in the $10 range - I did not try it. The wine list has bottles of wine ranging from around $12-UP USD.
We also ate at the Monterrey Room which was very good as well. One good thing about this place is they have all kinds of food here - AWESOME. It was like 2 AM in the morning when we ate here, its open 24 hrs a day. I had the 16 oz. steak dinner, which comes with garlic bread, onion rings, a salad and a beer for about $8. My girlfriend had waffles which were around $10 w/a fruit filling.
Entertainment
They have a 72 lane bowling alley upstairs which can be a good diversion from gambling if you are down on your luck. Also, they have a lounge on each the East and West end of the lounge. The East Lounge is nothing more than cheesy Vegas lounge acts. The West lounge is primarily Karaoke.
They have a musical show called Serendipity which looked pretty cheesy so we did not go. The best shows in this town are at the other casinos - I would reccommend O at the Bellagio, Blue Man Group at the Luxor, and V the ultimate Variety show at the Venetian.
Amenities
They have a lot to offer as they have an average sized pool here. There is a barbor shop, liquor store and gift shop, a fast food place called Terrible Mikes, and a Seattles best Coffee shop. They also have a number of bars and a pretty low key sportsbook. Drink service was GREAT and usually FREE because they would assume you were gambling.
Location
The location is pretty good for not being on the Strip. It is located in between the Rio and the Palms which are two pretty swanky hotels with high prices. There is a shuttle that goes to the strip every 15 min right outside the hotel, it goes to the Barbary Coast.
I noticed they have a mixture of locals, youger people, and retirees at this hotel and this probably has to do with the cheap room prices. I would definitely like to stay here again.
