Gold Coast Casino- Old West Charm

Written: Jul 29 '02 (Updated Jul 29 '02)
Pros:Cheap but good buffet, loose slots, friendly service people
Cons:I lost $40 on the black jack table!
The Bottom Line: Loose slots, friendly service and cheap but good eats! Definitely worth the visit if you enjoy playing the slots!

I recently visited Las Vegas and stayed with a friend who is an employee of the Gold Coast. I went to work with him one evening and gambled the Gold Coast for 8 hours! This is a synopsis...

I arrived at the Gold Coast at 3am on a Thursday(my friend works the grave). It is decorated in an old west theme complete with antique bridles and an antique saddle at the check in counter. They offer a show called "Honky Tonk Angels" with actresses/singers portraying Dolly Parton and Patsy Clien, but there were no shows that late. There is also a bowling center located on the second floor that offers $1 bowl and beer 12am-4am each evening!

There were a few people around, but all of the restaurants were closed but the Port O' Bay Buffet, and only one table games pit was open. Unfortunately the one "Let It Ride" table in that pit was closed down. I decided to cut out for a bit and walk to the Palms across the street, and the Rio to the other side of the street.

I came back to Gold Coast about 5am and decided to play Black Jack with the $40 I won at the Palms. BAD IDEA. I lost $40 in 9 hands playing $5 a hand!!! The dealer was right on and it 2 natural 21's!

After I lost the $40 I decided to play the slots. I found the Gold Coast has a Players Club which awards 2500 points during your birthday month. What do you know, my B-day was a week away, so I signed up! The lady at the Club counter was very friendly and helpful. I played the slots with my card and won $15 on a nickel Popeye machine! I also won $10 on Scrabble machine. I have to say, on my trip, I found the Gold Coast's slots to be the loosest.

I had a mishap with one of the ATM Casino Cash machines at the Gold Coast, where I recieved no money from the machine and no receipt. The floor manager was very helpful and gave me the customer service number and explained to me what all I had to do to be sure that the money was not drawn from my account!

Gold Coast also has a nice little gift shop which was open 24 hours, and I was able to get a nice 60 page souvineer photo book for $7.95. They also sell logo merchandise like shot glasses, mugs and beer glasses.

By 7am I was very hungry and decided to hit the Port O'Bay Buffet. Breakfast Buffet, including beverage was only $4.55!!! Some of the items in the buffet included bacon, eggs benedict, sausage, toast, as well as chinese food, italian food and mexican food! I got the eggs benedict and some bacon. They were both excellent! The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive.

Besides the loosing part, I had a wonderful time during my evening at the Gold Coast! I would definitely recommend visiting it during your trip to Vegas, just be sure to stick to the slots, not the tables ;)
