| rickey's Full Review: Bellagio Hotel |
I am literally an outsider when it comes to the Bellagio. I have never been to any of the suites in the hotel and I have never experienced "service" from any of its employees. But I have seen the fountain outside and have been to the public casino and the shops -- just like many a passer-by on the Las Vegas strip. What I have experienced of the Bellagio however, I have loved. And I certainly recommend to anyone visiting Las Vegas not to miss a stop at Bellagio. It will be Las Vegas' most elegant landmark for a very long time.
Things to see for free:
The Fountains at Bellagio.
Located at the front of the hotel. Show times are from 3 PM to Midnight every thirty minutes. (Schedule times may vary -- see website for more info. There may also be "unforeseen incidents" in the future that prevent a show, like the Las Vegas flooding in 1999).
A magnificent light and sound show accompany "dancing" fountains and arias from Andrea Bocelli and other stars. Have your picture taken, enjoy the music. The best show on the strip.
The Botanical Conservatory.
Located just after the main lobby entrance.
Smell the fragrances, admire the greenery. Have your picture taken at a convenient platform just below the greenhouse ceiling.
I believe they have different themes for every season, so this place is constantly changing. I visited Bellagio when it opened in 1998 and it featured floral arrangements from Martha Stewart for Christmas. I visited the hotel again during the summer 1999 and they had completely different plants growing/displayed in there. A must see.
The shops.
Just turn right from the main lobby, and walk through the casino up to the shops. There is also an entrance at the strip.
The usual high brow Las Vegas window shopping fare. Hey, at least you're window shopping at the most expensive hotel in the world! You can skip this if you are not a window-shopping fan.
And that's it. The rest of the places to see, including the Art Gallery (one of these days, I'll go) and playing in the casino, will cost you money. And since I'm an "outsider," I have no idea if I should recommend or not. Maybe one of these days, yeah? - for all of us!
For now, a stop or walk through at Bellagio is the one Las Vegas experience you shouldn't miss.
