Quiet Elegance on the Strip

Written: Dec 20 '99
Pros:Beautiful large pool area, Palatial comfort and elegance, Bellagio Art Gallery, Bellagio buffet is top rated buffet in Las Vegas
Cons:Hotel is expensive, Casino is smoky, Lines are long at the buffet, Not easy to casino hop because the hotel is behind the lake, slot machines are tight

Driving into the Bellagio is like entering another world of quiet elegance. It's in sharp contrast to the other hotels on the strip. You won't find neon and glitz. You will find marble, mosaics, gardens, fountains, art museum, high end shopping, fine dining and the famed Dale Chihuly flower sculpture on the ceiling of the reception area. The Conservatory is a huge glassed in area the has live floral displays and gardens that change seasonally. The Bellagio sprung up on the site of the former Dunes Hotel. Steve Wynn spared no expense in bringing the palazzo that replicates Lake Como to Las Vegas. No children are admitted unless they are guests of the hotel.

The fountain show in the lake front is set to music by the likes of Andrea Bocelli and Frank Sinatra. The free show is daily and draws huge crowds. If you are staying at the hotel, request a room facing the fountains and tune in the music on your TV set. (You will also have a view of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris resort across the street).

The standard hotel rooms are plush. Pillow top mattresses, wardrobe with loaner bathrobes and safe, huge marble bathroom with hairdryer and top of the line toiletries and lets not forget the Belgian chocolate on the pillow nightly. Housekeeping is immaculate.

The suites are unreal, tasteful and luxurious. Three bathrooms, dining room, wet bar, full living room with every electronic device known to modern man. Suites even have a doorbell and the drapes are all operated by switch. The base of the bed has a pop up TV. Her bathroom has a jacuzzi, his has a sauna. This is definitely the place to splurge to celebrate a special occasion. The bad...you have to have a suite room key to operate the elevator. You can't visit someone in a suite without their room key.

The hotel and casino staff is attentive and courteous.
The casino is draped in fabrics and the slot machines are encased in cabinets. It's the quietest casino I've ever been in because the slot machines don't make noise. They are also very tight. A lot of tourists walk through the casino and don't actually play in the casino.
