IP, cost effective lodging

Pros:Location, good room, good food
Cons:Slow check in, parking garage

I stayed at the Imperial Palace over the long Thanksgiving weekend. The hotel offers excellent value with a great location on the strip. It is an older hotel that has been very well maintained.

The gaming is as good as any other casino, I was not lucky there but others may have a better experience. It was enjoyable and the casino is kept clean. There are lots of slot machines, both new electronic types and the older styles, which accept various denominations on coins. Their gaming club also seemed as good as the rest.

Their restaurants were above average. I am usually a budget class of traveler so I eat in the buffets, which are most often the lower priced meals in Las Vegas. The Imperial Palace buffet was much better than places like Circus Circus or the 'Surf Buffet' (which I rate as the worst one in Las Vegas). It is more in the class of the Stratosphere or Sahara. I also ate at their sea food restaurant, located a floor or two above the buffet. It was excellent!

Their location is just great!! They are centrally located on the 'best' part of the strip. The new casinos, Paris & the Venician, are a couple blocks away. Others like the Belligio,& Ceasers Palace are across the street. The best part of the strip is easy walking distance.

If there are any areas that were not up to par they would be check in and their parking garage. I had to wait about 30-45 minutes in line, a very long line. There were only 5 or 6 staff members working and some of those were handleing other matters as they came up. This was not acceptable in my book. Other hotels seem better prepared to handle check-ins.

Their parking garage seems like it was built for golf carts. There are load of pillars that make it difficult to park and get out. The markings are also not clear on which way to go to find additional parking or the exit. One exit sign I did find directs cars to exit on Las Vegas Blvd, without informing drivers that they can also exit in the opposite direction, which is much faster. This little tidbit of information can save a 1/2 hour wait or more in traffic!!

For me the Imperial Palace was an excellent value with a great location!
