I used to love the Imperial Palace...it was a small-enough casino that a couple could go there to play, without completely losing track of each other. However, our most recent stay in December 1999 will be our last...
First the good points...there are a wide variety of slot machines, including many of the newer bonus game varieties. The casino still has the same coziness...you can find another person playing easily within a few minutes. The rooms are adequate...clean, comfortable, but nothing to write home about.
The down side...the line to check out was ridiculous, and the staff was unconcerned about serving anyone. The high-roller check-out was unstaffed during peak check-out times, and we finally were able to get someone's attention by leaving the line, and calling a slot host on the house phone! Though we had been encouraged throughout our stay by dealers and hosts to record our play with their club cards, when it came time to check out, they had nothing to offer. The host even said that our play more than justified a comp room, but because we had booked our room through a tour company, they couldn't comp anything.
While I do understand the basic problem, I was irritated - if even one person had asked about our arrangements earlier in the stay, they could have advised us to charge meals and other things to our room so that we could have been comped for something. At other casinos we visited during our stay, casino hosts were very helpful and inquisitive - not so at the Imperial Palace.
Bottom line...if you want a cheap place to stay and gamble low-stakes, Imperial Palace may be for you - after all, the location is incredible. However, if you want service and a more upscale experience, find a more upscale hotel.
