Quiet And Classy

Written: Feb 25 '00 (Updated Dec 28 '03)
Pros:Very classy, quiet if you like it quiet I don't
Cons:A little to low key for me. Expensive Gaming
The Bottom Line: This is a nice hotel, it has a touch of class that is un-deniable.

Note December 2003 after reading this review myself recently I noticed that it is badly in need of an update as several things have changed since I wrote this. Such as I had put that it was probably the furthest down the strip, but that honor now goes to the Stratosphere. I don't have time at the moment to update the review, but just know that some of the information provided here is out dated, and you may want to skip on this review until I have had a chance to update it. Thanks

THEME:

I would not exactly call this a theme hotel even though I have not been there for about 4 years. However I have heard that they have since added an attraction that is call the Star Trek experience. This attraction features a motion simulator with film images. It also includes a museum with memorabilia, and costumes.

GAMING/CONS

In my opinion I found the casino at the Hilton to be a bit on the pricey side. Also it had much less machines and gaming tables. This is probably the best hotel for someone who likes it a little quieter. I myself prefer the glitz so this was not to my liking. But other people might appreciate this. I don't recall there being any nickel slot or video poker machines. There were some quarter machines but, mostly higher and there were not very many tables there but, if I recall correctly the lowest tables were $10.00 tables. It's funny that the one thing I remember about being in the Hilton is that while I was sitting at a slot machine I was getting very tired. So even though I almost never drink coffee when the cocktail waitress came around I asked her for a cup of coffee. It was the best cup of coffee I ever had. Back to the casino they have added into conjunction with their Star Trek experience a Space Quest Casino. Since I have not been there since it was built I cannot make any comments on it. But, I did mention it because it may have changed the whole quiet factor of the casino. I'll let you know next time I go.

The Race & Sports Book area at the Hilton is very impressive. And I must say a very comfortable place to sit. The casino staff are dressed in sophisticated attire. No sleaze here. The staff is very attentive. This is the hotel where the upscale clientele choose to risk there money. This is another casino in which the thrifty need not bother. Most of the time I did my gambling elsewhere.

OTHER AMENITIES

This hotel is located adjacent to the convention center and therefor most people will tell you that it is a favorite among conventioneers and business travelers

There also 6 tennis courts at the facility and a large pool area. The also has it's own country club. It has it's own par 71 golf course that is located two miles east of the hotel.

THEATER

When we were there we went to see the Musical Star Light Express I enjoyed the play very much but, and the theater wasn't bad. I was kind of angry that even though we had purchased our tickets in advance (a little over a month before our trip) and paid full price. We were put into the next to the last row. While talking to the couple in the row just in front of us they told us that they had found out that the people in the better seats were the ones who had attended one of those time share demonstrations. We did buy some really delicious strawberry drinks in souvenir glasses. This was not a thrifty thing to do either but, they were good.

ROOMS:

The rooms are very large and have large closets. They have comfortable easy chairs and marble top dressing tables. Very elaborate.

ANOTHER CON:

One thing I must mention about this hotel is that is probably the furthest hotel from any of the glitzier theme type hotels. If you don't like to walk and you like glitz don't stay here.

SUMMARY:

The best thing I can say about this hotel is that it is first class all the way. And first class costs. It is elegantly decorated and the staff is very attentive. The crowd here is a bit quieter than most of the other hotels so if that is how you like it you will like this hotel. The gambling here is not cheap so if you are looking for more bang for your buck go somewhere else. I prefer all the high powered action and loud noises of some of the more theme like hotels. I found the casino here to be a little bit on the boring side probably because I don't like risking a lot of money when I gamble. However, this hotel and casino do have their good points especially for people who like things a little more laid back.
