Outstanding is the word that best comes to mind when describing my experience with the Vegas Hilton. In all my years of visiting Vegas, I had never even considered staying there, nor had I visited it. I didn't know what I was missing.
Every facet of my stay, from the superb rooms to the efficient, friendly and helpful staff, was a true pleasure. Away from the crowds of the strip, I had the best time there that I've had in Vegas so far.
The rooms are superbly outfitted, tastefully decorated, very clean and well ventilated. The view is great from the upper levels. The room service menu was pricey and a bit limited, but the food was excellent (try the japanese breakfast for a true ethnic taste treat), servings large, and delivery fast and efficient. The pool was great, as was the poolside service. The spa facilities were outstanding as was their staff.
The casino itself is large, clean, not overly crowded. It has great games and bars, though the slots were very tight. The crowd seemed to be upper middle class, mostly business people, though I was there for a convention. They were very enjoyable and conversant.
The food is absolutely superb, from the seafood buffet and Quarks, to the mexican restaurant, the 24 hour cafe, the snack bar and my favorite of all, Benihana Village! That was an experience all unto itself. Highly recommended but pricey.
The new Star Trek expansion is really well done. I spent most every evening in there playing games and drinking at the bar. The Cuban bartender has a wonderfully cynical sense of humor, is great with people and fast to get your drinks to you.
The Star Trek Experience ride and museum is a must! The museum offers the most detailed exibit of Star Trek props that I've ever seen. There's also a shop selling outstanding Star Trek memorabilia, collectibles and props. This is a must see also.
The ride is outstanding! They pull off the most amazing of illusions, from a teleport experience that'll almost make you believe it actually happened, to a space shuttle ride you'll never forget! I went 4 different times, each time totally awesome! It's a must for trekies and I think kids would just love it. I was totally blown away with this one!
After the ride, be sure to try out Quarks restaurant. It's a Ferengi (sp?) themed restaurant that has really good food at fair prices. The staff are dressed as Ferengi's. The kids love that.
