| susieq112's Full Review: The Luxor Hotel And Casino |
The Luxor is great for any Ancient Egyptian enthusist, or just someone who finds the concept of sleeping in a pyramid intriguing.
After arriving by plane to Las Vegas my group (7 people) hired a limo to take us to our hotel of choose which we had booked a few weeks before. We had all been to Las Vegas before, except for one in the group, but we had always stayed at Imperial Palace because it had always had much cheaper packages, (just remember you get what you pay for).
While I had always wanted to stay at the Luxor since the first time I saw a picture of it.
We went on this particular trip in June '01. And even though a few of our group members were grunting about its South Strip location, I much prefered it.
Why stay on the South Strip?
Most of the newer, extravagant, or shall we say showy hotels on the south strip. Walking is much more safer because development is advance to the point the walks have been built over the roads for people, so not to interfere with traffic and traffic doesn't interfere with you. (You know how those Cab drivers can get!)
In particular the location of the Luxor itself gives you access to their neighboring hotel, the Excalibur, without even going outside, which is some relief in those hot Las Vegas days, where sunburns are bound to happen. Between these two hotels you have a wide selection of food, stores, and gambling areas, and even a 24 hour liquor store! (The great thing about Vegas in there are no public liquor laws, unless your just being stupid.)
Next to the Excalibur is New York, New York again connected conveinantly by elevated walkways, and by the same method across the street is MGM another beautifully extravagant hotel which also offers a tram to Bally's.
What does Luxor have to offer me, right in the hotel?
First off you have your Egyptian decorated room. A standard room has Double Beds, a large armavoir, a full wall of slanted window which is darkly tinted, and a spacious bathroom with shower.
Entertainment comes in a variety of forms. The have a museum which includes replicates of King Tuts Tomb, a 3 part IMAX show where you'll find yourself deep in the depths of the pyramid itself, and lat but not least RA, a ver stylish night club opened on select nights.
Shopping, is mainly restricted to Egyptian items, statues, papyrus paintings, and even real artifacts that are thousands of years old.
All in all Luxor is one of the more intriguing hotels on the strip, it always has that hint of secrecy hidden in it.
