I recently had the unfortunate opportunity to stay at this bastion of poor service. In a city where nearly everyone bends over backwards to provide superior service, the Luxor provides a stark contrast. I purchased a travel package that included airfare, airport transfers, and a 4-night stay at the Luxor. Due to problems with our flight (cancelled flight, transfer to another airline, a smell of jet fuel on the new plane, late departure of third flight, missed connection), we did not arrive until 10 AM on the morning after we were supposed to arrive. We got to the Luxor and the valet informed us that we could not check in until 2 PM. When we said that we were supposed to arrive the night before, he said we were welcome to take our bags to the registration desk (by walking through the construction area and casino) and see what they could do there. Immediately upon arrival, before we could explain the situation, the clerk told us that we could not check in unless we were VIP members (whatever that is). When we finally explained the situation, we were told that our room was given to someone else and she gave us a room next to the elevator. Before going to the room, I asked if there was anything they could do for us because we paid for 4 nights but were only able to stay 3. The clerk then said, "Hey that's not my problem -- take it up with your travel agent." While staying at the hotel and visiting the casino area, I found the service in the casino to also be somewhat lacking. The hotel itself is somewhat interesting and there are some nice features -- 3D IMAX theater, interesting elevators, video arcade, unique architecture. If you are in Vegas and want to see this casino, by all means, stop in and look around. But stay somewhere else and gamble in a place that at least appreciates you losing your money in the casino.
