| reive's Full Review: The Luxor Hotel And Casino |
Remember Stargate, that cheesy sci-fi movie with the ancient Egyptian like civilization on another planet? Well, this is where the sets wound up. It's sorta funny and sorta horrifying at the same time. When you need some class, escape to the nearby Mandalay Bay. If you want to continue the Sci-Fi theme, the Star Trek ride on the other side of town is not to be missed. At the Luxor, try to stay in one of the Towers -- rooms in the Pyramid are small, ugly and you can hear the casino in them. The Tower rooms have much better decor and the deepest bathtubs I've ever seen in an American hotel. While I found most of the restaurants unimpressive, be sure to check out the Japanese place's surprisingly good sushi (the cooked food is less stunning). The swimming pools are great, but stick to the smaller one, it's warmer. The casino area is exactly what you would expect, but be sure to bring your ID no matter what your age. I'm 27 and got carded constantly, which is something I did not experience in any of the other casinos I visited.
