I must say that I am a big fan of the Luxor hotel/casino. It provides a completely unique experience. It starts when you first set eyes on the casino. The huge pyramid and the sphinx greet you as you arrive. It is truly breathtaking.
The rooms at the Luxor are good size, clean and very unique. If you stay within the pyramid, the window in the room will actually be at a slant. It's a very unique look and adds a little charm to the room. Even more interesting, you must take an inclinator to your room if you are staying in the pyramid. It's basically an elevator that moves up at an angle. There is a slight problem with the inclinators. While there are four of them at each corner, you are only able to take one of them to your floor. This may not seem like a big deal, but at 4am after several White Russians, it can be quite a chore. The bathrooms are adequate with nothing special to them. However, they are clean and that is always a plus. The rooms are some of the least expensive on the strip. You definitely get your money's worth.
The casino is spacious and is actually contained with the pyramid. There is a great poker room, which is a bonus to me. Of course, the poker room has moved several times during the course of all my visits. They also offer several tournaments throughout the day that are always fun. The dealers at the blackjack and craps tables are always friendly. Another great thing is that the limits can be very low at times. You will probably be able to find 5 dollar tables at almost anytime.
The pool is also very nice. It's not as large as some other pools, nor as scenic. There is no wave pool nor is there a lazy river. What you will find though is a very large and spacious pool. There are some other auxiliary pools that are very nice as well. There is not as much foliage at the Luxor pool as at other places. I personally like that a little better. I enjoy the wide open space that the Luxor pool provides.
There is one major problem with Luxor. The location is less than ideal. You are pretty much locked into one end of the strip and you are sandwiched in between Mandalay Bay and Excaliber. I enjoy visiting Mandalay Bay on occasion. However, I choose to stay away from Excaliber. New York, New York, MGM Grand and Tropicana are somewhat close. Of course, it seems like nothing is "close" anymore in Las Vegas. Just be prepared to drive/cab it to any other place along the strip. You are able to take a monorail to Mandalay Bay and Excaliber. That does cut down on the walking.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Luxor if you are on a more limited budget. It is much cheaper than Mirage, Bally's or Bellagio. It doesn't offer all of the advantages as those casinos, but overall it's a good deal.
