My wife and I took a vaction to Las Vegas this past summer. When we were booking the hotel, our travel agent recommended the Monte Carlo to us. And it was a great fit.
Located adajcent to New York, New York, the Monte Carlo has a tram access to the Bellagio and is also close to the MGM grand. The tram made it nice to get over to Bellagio, but you had to walk out of the casino to get to the Strip and walk to New York, New York. In rush hour, crossing the street can be tricky.
The Monte Carlo has a wonderful lobby that calls out the European feel of the city it is named after. The rooms were nice, but not spectacular. But since you only are sleeping there, you really don't need more than that. The staff was always attentive to your needs. And the pools are nice, with a lazy river pool and a wave pool.
All in all I would definitely stay at the Monte Carlo again. Being that you are close to New Yourk, New York, MGM and Bellagio, and you can also easily get to Excalibur, which gives you tram access to Luxor and Manadalay Bay, you have the one end of the Strip covered.
